Procedure

Originally National Identity cards were issued by the Ministry of internal Affairs but a National Identification Registry was approved and now has the responsibility of issuing National Identification documents in Liberia;

1.An applicant should start by finding out the requirements for obtaining a Liberia National Identification card.

2.Prepare all required documents, make copies of the same and go to the National Identification registry office;

3.At the registry, obtain an application form for the National Identification card, fill it carefully and thereafter submit the filled application together with copies of required document to the registry;

4.The application is reviewed and assessed and if found eligible to obtain a national identity card, the applicants photo and fingerprints are recorded;

5.Thereafter, the applicant is asked to return for the card after a given period of time;

6.In the registry, each applicant is given a social security number after registration which appears on the identification document;

1.Applicants must be citizens of Liberia;

2.Applications must be submitted in person;

3.Ensure that all documents submitted are true copies;

4.Applicants must meet the age limit and residential requirements;

5.Should be in the country at the time of submitting application;

6.Issuance of national identification cards in Liberia is only done in the country by the National Identification Registry;

7.Endeavor to register within the given period of time;

8.Late registration is done at a fee;

Need for the Document

A Liberian National Identification Card is a wallet sixe plastic / laminated card with black background, blue margins and black printings issued to citizens of the country. The card is computer-issued and can only be got from the National Identification Registry which is the authorized issuing authority.
