- The first thing that you need to do when you have lost your personal certificate or it has been stolen, and it includes all the certificates activated upon your request, is to immediately contact the help desk of a reliable certification service provider JSC Latvian State Radio and Television Centre (LVRTC) by the number 67018989 and ask to cease the functioning of the certificates.
- You will be ask by the operator to verify your identity by asking the secret question that you have indicated when you first processed your application to obtain a personal certificate.
- You should act similarly if you have reasonable doubts that your personal certificate is at another persons disposal and the data of creating the electronic signature have been used without your knowledge.
- In order to inform about the loss of the personal certificate and process your request to obtain a new personal certificate, you must be physically present when turning to the division of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs or the diplomatic service of the Republic of Latvia in foreign countries.
- You can ask for renewal of the ceased certificates only with you being present at the division of the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs or the diplomatic service of the Republic of Latvia in foreign countries.

Functions of the identity card:
- By presenting your identity card, you can verify your identity in presence by presenting the document to a person who must confirm your identity, legal status, age, etc. In Latvia, a identity card can fully replace a passport, except regarding the use of voting rights until the implementation of an electronic voter registration system.
- The identity card of a citizen of Latvia can be used as a travel document within the European Union, countries of the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation.
- Using your identity card, in which an authentication certificate is included and activated, you can verify your identity from distance in the electronic environment. It is possible if the service provider ensures a chance to authenticate with an eID
- With an identity card, in which a valid certificate of an electronic signature is included and activated, you can attach your electronic signature to electronic documents having the same force as physically signed documents.
