Obtaining Refugee Travel Document

  1. Fill up and submit application form along with all the required documents to the Refugee Affairs Department of the OCMA.
  2. Pay the necessary application fee.


Lost Document

If the refugees travel document has been lost or has become inappropriate for further usage, a person shall apply to the Refugee Affairs Department of the OCMA.


Note:

  • Before going abroad, holders of the refugees travel document must learn about the immigration rules applying to holders of such documents of visiting country.
  • According to the Council Regulation (EC) No. 1932/2006 exemption from the visa requirement to enter another Member State of the EU, except for the United Kingdom and Ireland, but including Norway and Iceland, applies to the refugees who reside permanently in another Member State and who are holders of a travel document issued by that Member State.

Required DocumentsEdit

Obtaining the document for the first time

  • certificate of birth, if person is under the age of 15 or a person has not been issued a document after reaching the age of 15;
  • (identification document issued abroad, if it is in holders possession;)


For lost, stolen or destroyed document

  • explanatory letter about the circumstances of the stolen, lost or destroyed document;
  • written application submitted by one of childs parents if under the age of 16.
  • decision from Police about the persons application in case the document was stolen;

EligibilityEdit

It is issued to persons who have been granted the refugee status according to Asylum Law.



FeesEdit

The state fee on the issuance of the refugees travel document shall be paid in the amount established by the Cabinet of Ministers. Refugees shall be issued permanent resident permits free of charge.



ValidityEdit

The refugees travel document is issued for 5 years.

The refugees travel document is issued by the Refugee Affairs Department of the OCMA after granting the refugee status to a person.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A refugees travel document confirms the identity of its holder. This document entitles its holder to reside in the territory of Latvia, cross the border of Latvia and return to the territory of Latvia.

In the refugees travel document a permanent residence permit is attached, which shall be re-register once every 5 years.
