Procedure

Following are the ways through which Foster Family Allowance can be applied:

In-Person

1. The applicant can approach one of the State Social Insurance Agency (SSIA) offices where an application can be made.

By Post

1. When applying through post the applicant should complete the application form that can be found under the following link : More Info & Application Form
2. Also, make sure you attach all the documents that are requested by the office.

Eligibility

Following are the person who are eligible applying for foster family allowance, Citizens, non-citizens, foreigners and stateless persons with an identity number and who are living in Latvia are entitled to receive an allowance for the fulfillment of foster family duties.

The allowance is granted to a family or person, which has acquired the status of a foster family and which according to a decision by an orphans court and an agreement between a municipality and a foster family has been fostered a child who has been assigned a personal identification number.

Note : The allowance is not granted to persons with temporary residence permits.

Fees

Explain the fees structure which is required for obtaining the certificate/document.

Validity

Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.

Processing Time

Decision on granting of the benefit is made within a month after the department of the SSIA has received all the documents and other information necessary to grant the allowance.

Instructions

Time for claiming
Documents for the granting of the allowance shall be submitted within 12 months after a child was fostered according to a decision by an orphans court and an agreement between a municipality and a foster family.
