Procedure

Following are the ways through which Disabled Child Birth Benefits can be applied:

• In-Person
• By Post

In-Person

1. The applicant can approach one of the State Social Insurance Agency (SSIA) offices where an application can be made.

1. When applying through post the applicant should complete the application form that can be found under the following link : More Info & Application Form
2. Appropriate documents should be submitted along with the application form.

Eligibility

Following listed are the persons who are entitled to receive the disabled child care benefits citizens, non-citizens of Latvia, foreigners, and stateless persons living in Latvia who have received a personal identification code.

The benefit is granted to one of the childs parents or a guardian who takes cares of the disabled child for whom the State Medical Commission for Expert-Examinations of Health and Working Ability has determined disability and has issued an opinion on the necessity for special care.

Note : The benefit is not granted to persons who have received a temporary residence permit.

Fees

Processing Time

Decision on granting of the benefit is made within a month after the department of the SSIA has received all the documents and other information necessary to grant the allowance.

Instructions

The payment of the disabled child care benefit is terminated:

• When the time period for which the invalidity and the necessity for special care have been specified ends.
• When the child reaches the age of 18 years.,br>
  

Time for claiming
The application must be submitted not later than within 12 months from the moment when the right is created. If the benefit is applied for later it is granted only for the previous 12 months prior to the application for the benefit.
