Apply In Person:
- To Register for Packer's License, the applicant has to approach the State Legal Metrology Department link
- Register your packer and mover business as a legal entity with the appropriate government authority.
- The applicant can choose to set up your business as a sole proprietorship, partnership, private limited company, or any other suitable form of business structure.
- If your business turnover exceeds the prescribed threshold, you need to register for Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the GST department.
- If your packer and mover business involve transporting goods using commercial vehicles, you need to register these vehicles for commercial use with the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- Obtain appropriate insurance coverage for your business to protect against any damages or losses during the moving process.
- Ensure that you comply with all labour laws and safety regulations concerning your employees and the handling of goods.
- Once completed with all the above steps successfully, the applicant has to visit the office for applying packer license.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The application fee for a packer's license in India is Rs. 500 for Indian nationals and Rs. 1,000 for foreign nationals.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
- This entire process can be completed within 3 to 6 months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

The following are the eligibility criteria for registering for a packer's license in India:
- The applicant must be a citizen of India or a foreign national with a valid visa.
- The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
- The applicant must have a premises that is suitable for packing pre-packaged commodities.
