Procedure

Apply In Person:

1. To Register for Packer's License, the applicant has to approach the State Legal Metrology Department link
2. Register your packer and mover business as a legal entity with the appropriate government authority.
3. The applicant can choose to set up your business as a sole proprietorship, partnership, private limited company, or any other suitable form of business structure.
4. If your business turnover exceeds the prescribed threshold, you need to register for Goods and Services Tax (GST) with the GST department.
5. If your packer and mover business involve transporting goods using commercial vehicles, you need to register these vehicles for commercial use with the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
6. Obtain appropriate insurance coverage for your business to protect against any damages or losses during the moving process.
7. Ensure that you comply with all labour laws and safety regulations concerning your employees and the handling of goods.
8. Once completed with all the above steps successfully, the applicant has to visit the office for applying packer license.
9. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
10. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
11. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
12. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
13. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
14. The application fee for a packer's license in India is Rs. 500 for Indian nationals and Rs. 1,000 for foreign nationals.
15. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
16. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
17. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
18. For further process, the applicant has to follow the instruction given by the officer.
19. This entire process can be completed within 3 to 6 months or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Eligibility

The following are the eligibility criteria for registering for a packer's license in India:

• The applicant must be a citizen of India or a foreign national with a valid visa.
• The applicant must be at least 18 years old.
• The applicant must have a premises that is suitable for packing pre-packaged commodities.

Fees

Validity

• The validity of the packer’s license is for five years.
