ProcedureEdit

  1. Make sure that you are eligible to apply for the procedure.
  2. Gather all necessary documents.
  3. Submit your request along with all other required documents at the competent municipal civil registry or at the diplomatic or consular offices of the Republic of Kosovo, in case you are staying abroad.
  4. Pay the administrative fee.

Required DocumentsEdit

For those whose parents are citizens of the Republic of Kosovo at the time of the child's birth:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Certificate of Registry or any other valid document that can prove that the parents are citizens of Kosovo.


For those whose either mother or father is a citizen of Kosovo:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Certificate of Registry or any other valid document that can prove that the parents are citizens of Kosovo.
  • Consent of the child, those who are older than 14 to 18 years.
  • Written Consent of the parent who is not a Kosovo citizen. The commission on citizenship will make sure that the applicant will not become stateless, in case the application is denied.


For a child born abroad with one parent is a citizen of Kosovo and the other parent has unknown citizenship or stateless:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Certificate of Registry or any other valid document that can prove that the parents are citizens of Kosovo.
  • Consent of the child, those who are older than 14 to 18 years.
  • Written Consent of the parent who is not a Kosovo citizen. The commission on citizenship will make sure that the applicant will not become stateless, in case the application is denied.


For a child born abroad and one parent holds another citizenship other than Kosovo, and the parents agreed in writing that the child will acquire Kosovo citizenship:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Certificate of Registry or any other valid document that can prove that the parents are citizens of Kosovo.
  • Written Consent of the parent who is not a Kosovo citizen. The commission on citizenship will make sure that the applicant will not become stateless, in case the application is denied.


For those who are born in the territory of Kosovo and the parents possess citizenship in another country but are allowed to legally reside in Kosovo:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Copies of documents, valid identification and proof of residence in Republic of Kosovo of both parents.
  • Written consent of parents. The commission on citizenship will make sure that the applicant will not become stateless, in case the application is denied.


For those applying through naturalisation:

  • Birth certificate, marriage certificate for married persons
  • Document stating that the applicant is a permanent resident of Kosovo for 5 years
  • Evidence showing that the applicant has met all financial obligations (evidence from Tax Administration and the Office of the Municipal Property Tax on fulfillment of tax obligations)
  • Proof of adequate accommodation for the applicant and his subordinates
  • Proof of basic knowledge in one of the official languages
  • Document that can prove that the applicant is not under criminal investigation and has not been convicted for any offenses, issued by the competent court of the Republic of Kosovo, Kosovo police, and by a competent authority of a foreign state where the applicant is a citizen or where the applicant last stayed in the past 6 months
  • Certification by the Kosovo Police
  • Proof that the applicant has sufficiet funds to stay in Kosovo.
  • Valid identity document that has a photo of the applicant.
  • A written statement where the applicant swears that he/she will abide by the laws being implemented in Kosovo.
  • Payment of the administrative fee amounting in 150 euros


For those who are married to a citizen of Kosovo:

  • Birth and marriage certificate which proves that for at least 3 years, the applicant is married to the Kosovo national.
  • Proof that the applicant has been legally residing in Kosovo for at least a year before the application was submitted.
  • Evidence showing that the applicant has met all financial obligations (evidence from Tax Administration and the Office of the Municipal Property Tax on fulfillment of tax obligations)
  • Document that can prove that the applicant is not under criminal investigation and has not been convicted for any offenses, issued by the competent court of the Republic of Kosovo, Kosovo police, and by a competent authority of a foreign state where the applicant is a citizen or where the applicant last stayed in the past 6 months *Certification by the Kosovo Police
  • Proof that the applicant has sufficiet funds to stay in Kosovo.
  • Valid identity document that has a photo of the applicant.
  • A written statement where the applicant swears that she will abide by the laws being implemented in Kosovo.
  • Payment of the administrative fee amounting in 150 euros


For minor child of a naturalized person:

  • The child's birth certificate
  • Documents that can prove the identity of the parents
  • Consent of the child, for those aged 14 to 18 years
  • Written consent of the parents (certified)
  • Proof of payment of the administrative fee in the amount of 50 euros


For those who have previously lost their Kosovo citizenship:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Certificate from the Registry of the parent
  • Copies of identification documents of both parents
  • Evidence showing that the applicant has met all financial obligations (evidence from Tax Administration and the Office of the Municipal Property Tax on fulfillment of tax obligations)
  • Document that can prove that the applicant is not under criminal investigation and has not been convicted for any offenses, issued by the competent court of the Republic of Kosovo, Kosovo police, and by a competent authority of a foreign state where the applicant is a citizen or where the applicant last stayed in the past 6 months *Certification by the Kosovo Police

  • Minor child (under the age of 18) of a naturalized person.
  • Those who have previously lost their Kosovo citizenship.

InstructionsEdit

For those whose parents are citizens of the Republic of Kosovo at the time of the child's birth application forms are submitted at the municipality where the child was born and is a resident or at the municipality where the parents are residents. Application forms must be submitted personally by the applicant, or by his/her legal representative if the applicant is a minor.

For children born abroad and one of the parents holds another citizenship other than Kosovo, and the parents agreed in writing that the child will acquire Kosovo citizenship, this option must be exercise before the child turns 14 years old.

Applications can also be submitted at diplomatic or consular offices of the Republic of Kosovo, in case the applicants is staying outside the territory of Kosovo.
