Kiribati - Obtain Birth Certificate

To obtain a copy of a birth certificate, please follow these steps:
- For child born at Nawerewere (Tungaru Central Hospital) or at Betio Hospital, the civil registration officer responsible for birth notification will assist the child's parent in processing the registration and the issuance of the child’s first birth certificate.
For those on outer islands, the nurse on each island will assist the parents in filling out the birth notification and the responsible parents (mother/father) will submit the birth notification to the ASWO where the child’s birth certificate will be produced and issued out.
For babies born outside hospitals or without a nurse assistance, parents will need to notify a nurse or a nearby hospitals/clinics for assistance in registering the child with the Civil Registration Office. - All information are encoded in the database and the birth certificate will be issued free of charge, confirming the registration is done.
- In case you are not sure whether you have a birth certificate with the Civil Registration Office, it will be good if will you come to the office and inquire in person.

The birth of every child in Kiribati (born alive or stillborn) must be registered immediately within 10 days.
FeesEdit
Registration of birth and issuance of the child's first birth certificate is free of charge.

The Office of the Registrar General is responsible is responsible for the registration of birth, death and marriage in Kiribati.
The Civil Registration Office is located at Bairiki and there is also another office located in Betio. There are CRO staff working at hospitals in Betio and Nawerewere. They are assigned to register new born babies. For marriage and death registration with late birth registration you are required to visit CRO offices.
