Kiribati - Apply for National Identification Card

The approval of the National Identity Act 2018, the Ministry of Justice is advancing with the issuance of Identity Card to all Kiribati Citizens aged 18 years and above.
Officers of the Ministry have started gathering information for all Kiribati citizens that will feed into the population register. The information contained in the Population Register will show data under the Birth, Death & Marriages Ordinance which existed immediately prior to the commencement of the act, as well as the information contained in any document kept by the Registrar General under any law, which are appropriate for the compilation and maintenance of the population register.
This shall apply to all persons who are Kiribati citizens and persons who are lawfully and permanently resident in the Republic.
If you are aged 18 years and above and haven't applied for a national ID card, here are the steps on how you can apply for one.
- A link is provided under 'Documents to Use' section which you can use to download the application form. Remember, if you are filling in the form prior to visiting MOJ then you are required to leave out the Fingerprints, Signature and Photo sections. MOJ staff will assist you with this.
- Bring the completed form to the office of MOJ. Submit the form together with 2 copies of recent photograph to the MOJ officer.
- They will review your application and assist you in affixing your signature on the form. They will also collect your fingerprint.
- Pay the $10.00 application fee.
- Once approved an ID will be issued to the applicant. The identity card is valid for 3 years.
