Apply In-Person :
- To apply for renewal of stage carriage permit in Kerala the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which his area belongs to.

- Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
- Please make sure that you are eligible for this procedure
- Application forms can also be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that can be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
- Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
- After checking the vehicle for its correctness and other appropriate requirements the application will be processed. Important verifications for the permit includes Vehicle condition, seating arrangements etc; will be carried by authorities.

Apply online :
- Visit the following portal: online portal.
- Select the “Permit Online” option under “Other Online Services”.
- Select “Chandigarh” in the drop down menu and click “proceed”.
- Please follow the screen and fill in prompted details to process the online procedure.
- Upload required documents and take print out of acknowledgement.
- On the appointment date, go to the RTO office before 11:30 am and submit the documents to the officer at the office. The officer will mark the amount needed to be paid at the respective counter.
- Pay the fees and submit the document at the counter.
- Authorities will process the application further and the applicant will get the permit in a stipulated period of time.

- Enter the application number as prompted and click “Get user Details” to process online in getting appointment.
Apply through Centres:
- To apply through centres, the applicant has to visit the respective “CSC” centre. Please tap on the following link to locate the centre according to the respective district: link.
- Make sure to have the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- It is advised to take the documents in original to the kiosk for scanning purposes.
- The operator will process the application online.
- On successful submission, the applicant will receive an application number as acknowledgement.
- The status, viz. Approval or Rejection if any, will be conveyed to the applicant through an SMS.
- If verified, the permit will be hand delivered or sent through post to the address mentioned while applying in a stipulated period of time.

- Valid permit that is going to expire.
- Registration Certificate of the vehicle.
- Fitness Certificate.
- Proof of payment of tax for the current quarter.
- Insurance Certificate.
- No object certificate from the financier if the vehicle concerned is covered by HPA / Lease / Hypothecation.
- Pollution Under Control Certificate
- The resolution of the RTA
- Route permits book, all in original.
- Parking area certificate issued by any gazette officer/Police officer/Revenue authority of the area.
- Recent copy of Map along with Form-F of the land housing the parking facility.
- No objection certificate of the tenant if the vehicle is intended to be parked on the land of tenant other than the vehicle owner.

ValidityEdit
- The renewal of permit can be obtained with Vehicle fitness certificate and FC as per authorities of concerned RTO
- Usually Permit is valid for 5 years. The age of the vehicle is also considered to restrict the validity of the permit.

Stage carriage permit is granted by the Chairman, State Transport Authority.
Required InformationEdit
- Full name of applicant
- Name of father (in case of an individual)
- Address
- The routes or area for which permit is desired
- The maximum number of vehicles which will ply at any one time under the terms of the permit.
- The minimum number of vehicles which will ply at any one time under the terms of the permit in the area, or on any route or any part of any route and the minimum number of daily vehicle-trips.
- The type or types of vehicle to be used on the service and the approximate seating capacity.
- Particulars of the time-table(s) proposed.
- The standard rate of fare which it is proposed to charge.
- Particulars of any stage or contract carriages permit (or similar authorisation under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1914), valid in the Province, held by the applicant
- Particulars of any permit (or similar authorisation under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1914), held by the applicant in respect of the use of any transport vehicle in "the Dominion of India" during the last four year, which has been the subject of an order of suspension of cancellation.
Need for the DocumentEdit
- The stage carriage permit needs to be renewed before the validity of the permit lapse to ply the vehicle for the service.
- The need for Stage Carriage Permit arises with the requirement to operate trips in a route / area for carrying passengers with stages (Stops).
- The Stage Carriage Permit allows holders to service an area with a specific route. The permit also mentions the type of vehicle that is granted permission to operate, the approved timetable, the number of trips it can make in a day and standard rate of fare it can charge.
- No person shall be entitled to apply for the grant of a new stage carriage permit or for the renewal of a stage carriage permit, if the number of stage carriage permits already held by such person is not less than ten.
