ProcedureEdit

  • All applications to be are done to the National Construction Authority. Nowadays this is done online.
  • NCA has provided measures for a registered contractor to upgrade or downgrade his/her contractor registration category

  • All applications for upgrade downgrade should be submitted INDIVIDUALLY for each project under execution


Apply Online

  1. To make an application for renewal to be a contractor you need to visit the National Constructions Authority’s Website to make the application.
  2. Once you are on the page,click on the "contractor" option on the top of the page, and choose choose “Upgrade/Downgrade Your Category” option to go to the next page.
  3. In this page click on the "Upgrade/Downgrade Portal" which will direct you to the login page.
  4. Log into your account with the National ID/ Passport number and password used during the registration process.

  6. Once you have logged in click on the “Contractor registration” tab then click on “Certificate Upgrade/Downgrade”
  7. Enter your registration Number and click on “Load Licenses”
  8. Choose the category you want to upgrade or downgrade to then click submit.
  9. Make sure you have all the required documents needed for the category to want to upgrade/ downgrade to. You can check this by clicking on the required documents section on the page
  10. After submission of the online upgrade or downgrade application, an invoice will be sent to your email address used during registration with the amount to be paid and mode of payment. You will receive a text message notifying you of the sent invoice, and this will be sent via the phone number used during registration.
  11. In your account, you will be required to key in the Bank Slip Transaction Number or the M-Pesa Transaction Number after payment.
  12. After this processing of your registration will begin
  13. After a successful renewal application, an annual practicing license and NCA certificate will be auto generated in your online portal.

  2. CR 12
  3. Certified copy of current business license
  4. If applying for Electrical Engineering upgrade/downgrade attach a certificate from Energy Regulatory Commission
  5. Copy of Company registration certificate — Certificate of Registration/Certificate of Incorporation
  6. 3 Years audited accounts and other relevant financial information
  7. Certified copies proving ownership of assets
  8. KRA Tax compliance certificate
  9. Contractors association membership certificate
  10. Any document required by the NCA

  9. Tax details and Clearance Certificate
  10. Country of origin

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A person shall not carry on the business of a contractor unless the person is registered by the Board under the National Construction Authority Act.

Information which might helpEdit

  • A person/firm seeking to upgrade/downgrade his/her certificate can make the registration shall, , be eligible for upgrade/downgrade registration if at least one of the partners or directors of the firm possesses such technical qualifications, skills or experience as the Board may from time to time prescribe.
  • Any person who contravenes this commits an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding one million shillings, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or to both, and in the case of a continuing offence, to a fine not exceeding one hundred thousand shillings for every day or part thereof during which the offence continues.
