Kenya - Renewal of a Work Residence Permit

To replace a work residence permit card, follow the following steps:
You should only apply for a work resident permit if
- you did not get a Work Resident Permit card when you immigrated to Kenya, or
- you have a work resident permit that has expired or will soon expire.
If your work resident permit card was lost, stolen or destroyed, you can also apply for the permit, but there are extra steps you will need to follow.
- Foreigners who want to renew or extend their residence permits in Kenya, shall be obliged to apply to Foreigners Section of the Ministry of labour and Social Affair (first step application center) in person or through someone else within 15 days following the expiration of residence permits.
- Residence permits can be renewed four times at most.
- Even in the case of changes (address, work, status, marital status and transfer to another district, etc.) the renewal should be made on the same residence permit document.

- Government Organizations / Projects
- Four (4) copies of application form from employer
- Support letter from the immediate project supervisor
- Photocopy of employees passport and valid business visa
- Five (5) passport photos of employee
- Support letter from the Ministry under which an applicant will be working
- Business letter from employer
- Education certificates; and
- Work experience evidence
- Private organizations
- Four (4) copies of application form from employer;
- Investment certificate issued by the Investment Agency;
- Business License of employing company issued by the Ministry of Trade;
- Trading license if head office of employer is located outside Kenya;
- Photocopy of employees passport and valid business visa
- Five (5) passport photos of employee
- Support letter from the Ministry under which an applicant will be working
- Support / Business letter from employer
- Education certificates; and
- Work experience evidence
- Non Government Organizations
- Four (4) copies of application form from employer
- Registration certificate from charities and societies agency;
- Photocopy of employees passport and valid business visa
- Five (5) passport photos of employee
- Support letter from the Ministry under which an applicant will be working
- recommendation letter from employer
- Education certificates; and
- Work experience evidence
- The report filled with the Regional Employment Office must contain
- An application for a work card;
- A copy of the letter of application for the work card.
- A draft employment contract
- CV of the employer
- Proof or evidence of the professional skills and expertise of the applicant.
- Job description.
- A list of the companys expatriate employees; and a schedule of training, advance training and professional adjustment programs.

EligibilityEdit
The applicant for renewal of a work permit in Kenya must be foreigner invited for employment in by a registered company in the country.
FeesEdit
- Work permit 400,000/=
- Renewal 200,000/=
- Replacement 168,000/=
Any non-Kenyans wishing to live/work in Kenya will need to be aware of the new permit costs -
i)an 'H' permit will now cost KES400,000 (plus fees) for 2 years and
ii)an 'A' KES200,000 (plus fees) for 2 years.
In addition there will be new restrictions on positions requiring permit-holding employees, that pay less than KES168,000 per month, plus no issuance of permits to foreigners aged 35 or less.
ValidityEdit
Work residence permit card and Visa for settlement are usually valid for three (3) years.

- Ensure that you have a valid passport and get a business visa;
- A visa can be obtained either on arrival or prior to departure from any Kenyan embassy, high commission or consulate office in your country of residence;
- Beware of presence of water born diseases and malaria in the country;
- Always have adequate hard currency before traveling because credit card are accepted in very few outlets.
