Kenya - Renew Mineral Dealer License

An application for renewal of a mineral dealer license needs to be completed by no later than the 30th of November of that license year via the Mining Cadastre Portal, which is the official information management tool for the Ministry of Mining (MOM). Apply Online:
Step 1: log into the Mining Cadastre Portal.
- Using any browser login to the Mining Cadastre Portal
- In case the user has forgotten their password click on the “ I’ve forgotten my password” hyperlink.
- Then enter your registered email address to be sent an email granting you temporary access to reset your password.
Step 2: Apply for Renew Mineral Dealer License.
- Once successfully logged in, your license profile page will be displayed.
- When reviewing your license on the Online Mining Cadastre Portal, there will be a renewal application link at the bottom, which will take you to the appropriate page, to do so.
- Complete the online renewal application form, and upload the listed supporting documentation as listed on the site by doing the following:
- Ensure all your files have different names
- For large file(s), you can reduce the file size by compressing the file e.g. using a PDF COMPRESSOR.
- Click on the Browse button. Go to where the document is saved, select it, and then click “Open”.
- Once you have browsed and selected all the required Files, click on “Upload Files”
- Applicants will then be required to ensure all information and documents provided are accurate, before submitting the application for processing and consideration.
- The system will then generate a payment receipt for the applicant to make payment against and share proof of payment with the portal.
- The application will be validated for missing documents and overlap with existing licenses.
Step 3: Payment of the License renewal fee.
- The applicant will be required to access the Offer Letter, and if he agrees with the term of the offer, submit an acceptance letter, and share proof of payment of Ksh 20,000.00 with the portal and obtain a payment receipt.
Step 4: Obtain a mineral dealer (processing) license.
- The applicant is then required to visit the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining Regional Offices to withdraw the mineral dealer license against their identification documents.
- The time frame accumulatively for processing the application is usually between 4- 15 working days.

- Business registration certificate (copy) For sole proprietorships and partnerships
- Current mineral dealer license
- KRA PIN certificate (copy) For the company
- Class A work permit (copy) For foreign directors residing in Kenya
- Identity card (copy) For local directors or
- Passport (copy) For foreign directors.
- Land owner’s consent (original)

EligibilityEdit
- All registered mineral dealers with a valid mineral dealer’s license are eligible to apply.
FeesEdit
- KES 20,000 Fee for mineral dealers prospecting license. (initial and renewal license fee)
ValidityEdit
- A mineral dealer’s license shall expire on the thirty-first day of December of the year in which it is issued. The validity of the license shall be mentioned on the document and shall remain valid for the period stipulated on the document unless suspended, revoked, or cancelled by the Authority.
- Renewal application needs to be completed by no later than the 30th of November of that license year.
