Kenya - Renew Health Facility License (Private Health Facilities)

Procedure

• Renewal applications for private health (medica/dental) institutions license are done online.
• Applications for renewal should be done at least one week before the expiry date of the current license.

Apply Online

1. A licensed private health institution can make an application to renew their Private Health Institution License online by visiting the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s Online Services Portal through the following link: KMPDC Online Services Portal
2. Upon entering your accounts’ homepage, click on the “Apply for License” tab in the menu on the left pane to enter the next page.
3. Please click on the “Renewal ” option to make your renewal application.
4. On the renewal page click on the “Click here to Renew Annual License for 20xx” button to enter the next page.
5. Please provide your valid details of the health practitioners employed in your facility. This is done by clicking on the red “Download Template” link to download the medical personnel list template. Fill in the details of the health practitioners employed by your facility in the form then upload the file back to the account and click on the “Save & Continue” button.

   • This will cause an invoice for payment of the licensing fees to be generated.

6. On the MPDC Invoice page “Click to Pay Now” blue tab to pay for the Health Facility Licence

   • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The Payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the Replacement fees to be paid is given in the “Fee” section of this page

7. Upon making the renewal payment , a payment receipt and the renewed Private Health Medical /Dental Licence will be generated online.

   • Note: Wait for approximately 10 minutes then refresh the invoice page. After refreshing the page, you should find receipt and license ready to be printed.

8. Click on the “Download Receipt “ button and the “Download License” button to download the payment receipt and the renewed Health Medical /Dental Licence respectively.

   • Print the receipt and license and keep them for reference.

• Certified copies of Professional Certificates of all Health Professionals working in the health facility including licenses from their respective Regulatory Authorities.
• Registration Certificate of Health Institution.
• List of medical practitioners working for the institution.

• Type of health institution
• Full names,personal information and address of the applicant
• State if applicant is a director and/or administrator of the health institution
• Give full names and personal details of directors of the institution
• Give full names and registration number of the medical/dental practitioner or oral health officer who shall be in-charge of the health institution
• Give full details of professional qualifications of the professional named above
• State work experience of the person named in paragraph
• Give full names and professional qualifications of any other person(s), identified by your institution to undertake patient health care at the institution (e.g., clinical officers, nurses, oral health officers, laboratory technicians, x-ray staff, doctors, technicians, pharmaceutical technicians, etc.)

• A health institution needs to be licensed with the Kenya medical practitioners and dentist council in order to carry out its operation in Kenya.
• The licensing ensures that the health institutions meet the required standards to provide quality health care.
• An institution needs to always have a valid licence.

Information which might help

• An application for a license shall be made to the Council in the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed fees and shall be made on or before the thirtieth of October of each practicing year.
• The license issued is to be displayed in a conspicuous place at the health institution to which the license relates.
• The license issued shall specify the nature of services that may be provided by the health institution.
• No premise shall be used by any person as a health institution unless it is registered and licensed for such use by the Council.
