Apply Online

  1. To Register with National Construction Authority, the applicant should make the application to the National Construction Authority (NCA) through their online portal via this NCA Online Portal.
  2. If the applicant has an account, the applicant will be prompted to enter his/her log-in credentials to access his/her account.
  3. If the applicant does not have an account with the NCA, the applicant should create one by clicking on the “REGISTER” button to go to the account creation page.
  4. Then the applicant should enter his/her National identification card number or Passport number, Full name, Select account type as “Contractor”, Email address, Password, and then click on the “Register” button.
  5. The system will verify the entered information and automatically create the applicant’s account.
  6. Once the account is successfully created, the applicant will be required to login into his/her account using the registered credentials.
  7. Once the applicant is logged in, click on the “New Application” tab then click on the ‘New Contractor Registration’ option and then click on the “LOCAL CONTRACTOR” button to go to the online application form.
  8. Complete the online form correctly and then submit the application for processing.
  9. Upon submission of the online application, the applicant will be required to pay the one-time application fee of Ksh 5,000, after which the application will be evaluated by the NCA.
  10. Upon evaluation of the application and then NCA determines that the applicant meets all the required standards to be registered as a contractor, the NCA will approve the application.
  11. Once the application is approved, an invoice will be generated on the applicant application’s status page in the applicant’s NCA online account.
  12. The applicant should then click on the “Proceed to make payments” button under the contractor registration payment status section on the status page.
  13. Then choose the preferred payment method and proceed to make the payment upon which the system will verify the E-Citizen payment immediately.
  14. After making the payment successfully, the NCA license and certificate will be made available instantly for download through the applicant’s account.
  15. Then the applicant should click on the “Generate” button to view the NCA certificate(s) then select “My Licenses/Certificates” to download the certificate.


Foreigner Registration

  1. To register as a foreign contractor, the applicant should make the application to the National Construction Authority (NCA) through their online portal via this NCA Online Portal.
  2. If the applicant has an account, the applicant will be prompted to enter his/her log-in credentials to access his/her account.
  3. If the applicant does not have an account with the NCA, the applicant should create one by clicking on the “REGISTER” button to go to the account creation page.
  4. Then the applicant should enter his/her National identification card number or Passport number, Full name, Select account type as “Contractor”, Email address, Password, and then click on the “Register” button.
  5. The system will verify the entered information and automatically create the applicant’s account.

  7. Once the applicant is logged in, click on the “New Application” tab then click on the ‘New Contractor Registration’ option and then click on the “FOREIGN CONTRACTOR” button and then click on the “New Project Registration” button to go to the online application form for foreign contractors.

Local Registration

  • Copy of company registration certificate (attach ID copies of the director/s) or copy of the certificate of incorporation and CR12 for incorporated companies.
  • Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified directors.
  • Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified staff.
  • A valid KRA Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC).
  • A certified copy of the current business license.
  • If applying for electrical engineering works, attach a license from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
  • If applying for communication engineering works, attach a license from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK).
  • Proof of firm’s past experience/ongoing project(s) if any.
  • Proof of plant, equipment, and machine holdings.
  • Certified copies proving ownership of assets.
  • Three years ‘audited accounts, certified by a person registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) and other relevant financial information.
  • If registered with a contractors’ association (attach membership certificate


Foreign Registration

  • Copy of company compliance certificate (attach copies of passport(s) and work permit(s) for the director(s) or certificate of incorporation and CR12.
  • Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified directors.
  • Academic certificates and testimonials for the technically qualified staff.
  • Work permit(s) for the technically qualified staff.
  • A valid KRA tax compliance certificate.
  • A certified copy of the current business license.
  • If applying for electrical engineering works, attach a license from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
  • If applying for communications engineering works, attach a license from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK).
  • Three years ‘audited accounts, certified by a person registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) and other relevant financial information.
  • Proof of firm’s past experience locally/other jurisdictions and ongoing project(s) if any.
  • Proof of plant, equipment, and machine holdings.
  • Certified copies of documentation proving ownership of assets.
  • Sworn affidavit.
  • An undertaking, in writing, stating that the foreign firm shall:
    • Subcontract or enter into a joint venture with a local contractor for not less than 30% of the value of contract work for which temporary registration is sought.
    • Transfer technical skills not available locally to a local firm or person in a manner that the Authority may determine from time to time.

  • The license/certificate is between Ksh. 10, 000 to 50, 000 depending on the category to register.

InstructionsEdit

  • Eight categories are available for awarding, NCA 8-NCA 1, and five classes of works, namely:
    • Water and Roads, classified under civil engineering works.
    • Mechanical and Electrical classified under specialist engineering services.
    • Building engineering works.
  • Contractors interested in undertaking work under select specialist subclasses will also require licenses from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
  • A foreign contractor is required to seek registration with the National Construction Authority after issuance of an award letter and before signing the contract and should only undertake construction works or projects with a value limit of category NCA 1.
  • Hence the registration certificate and practicing license issued is specific to the contract being undertaken.
  • A foreign contractor is also required to attend at least one continuing professional development (CPD) training in each financial year and be awarded 10 CPD points.
