Kenya - Obtain or Reclaim lost TIN (Personal Identification Number PIN) Number

The tax identification number (TIN number) is referred to as the Personal identification number (PIN number) in Kenya.
Apply In-Person
- Go to your nearest Kenya Revenue Authority or Huduma centre to make the application to obtain your lost PIN number.
- If making your application from the Huduma centre visit the KRA desk to make the application.
- Present your National identity card to the KRA officer for verification.
- The tax revenue officer will assess the information and re-generate your lost PIN number.
- This application attracts no charge and you will be issued with your PIN number immediately.
- You will be given a printed copy of the certificate and a digital copy will be sent your email address.

Step 1 : Request for your lost PIN number
A). Request through Email
- Send an email to the Kenya revenue authorities requesting for your PIN number.
- The email should be sent to the following email address; [email protected] , [email protected]
- You should attach a scanned copy of your National ID to the email.
- You will get an email response with your PIN number within 24 hours.
B). Send request through KRA social media pages
- You can also send a request for your lost PIN number through KRA’s Social media pages. These are
- a. Twitter handle: @KRACare
- b. Facebook page: Facebook page

- You will be asked to send a scanned copy of your national Identity card.
- You will get response with your PIN number within 4 hours.
Step 2 : Reprinting your KRA PIN certificate on iTax
- Now that you have your KRA PIN number log in to KRA iTax portal using your PIN and password.
- Below is a breakdown on how you can reprint your KRA PIN by merely accessing your KRA account. Visit Kenya Revenue Authority portal by providing your PIN and Password.
- Select Registration on the navigation toolbar then click on Reprint PIN Certificate on the menu bar.
- Choose Applicant Type, then click submit the request and generate the PIN Certificate
- Click to download the PIN Certificate
- Print the downloaded certificate.

- iTax enables Taxpayer internet based PIN registration, returns filing, payment registration to allow for tax payments and status inquiries with real-time monitoring of accounts.

- The PIN number is used in Kenya to acquire a number of services. These include;
- (a) to clear any goods in commercial quantities from any port in Kenya
- (b) to register any title to land, interest in land or any document affecting land
- (c) to obtain any Tax Clearance Certificate from the KRA, Value Added Tax Service.
- (d) to obtain a Certificate to commence business or a business permit issued by the Registrar-General or a District Assembly
- (e) to receive payment from the Controller and Accountant General or a District Assembly in respect of a contract
- (f) to supply of any goods or provision of any services to register for the Ghana Card with the National Identification Authority
