How to Apply
Step 1: Apply for a User Login credential to the KRA Excise Goods Management System.

  1. Applicants are required to apply to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner for excise stamps at least sixty days before the manufacture or importation of the excisable goods.
  2. Application shall be made online via the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) portal
  3. New users are required to obtain the portal login credentials to be able to access the KRA - Excise Goods Management System by filing the request at any of the Kenya Revenue Authority Offices, Domestic Taxes Department.
  4. The request is done on the prescribed application form, obtainable at any of the KRA branches or downloaded via this link Application For User Right Creation/Withdrawal - Excise Goods Management System
  5. After obtaining/ downloading the applicable Application Form, fill it out and submit to the Authority, the completed user request form for processing which is usually within one (01) working day.
  6. The user will be issued with their personal User Credential (User Name & Password) and be trained on how to use the Excise Goods Management System.


Step 2: Apply for the Excise Stamp

  1. Once logged in to the Link Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) portal], proceed with the application for the Excise Stamp.
  2. Upon locating the application form, fill in all mandatory fields accurately and upload the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  3. Before submitting the Application for processing, please confirm all information regarding the application selected is well inputted, once done click on “Submit Application”.
  4. Upon successful submission, the applicant will receive an application submission notification.


Step 3: Obtain KRA Payment Slip:

  1. After a successful application evaluation process, applicants are notified of the approval and the KRA Excise Goods Management System shall generate a KRA Payment Slip for the applicant to make payment against.
  2. Applicants should log in to their Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) portal to locate and print the KRA Payment Slip and proceed with the payment by direct bank deposit.


Step 4: Obtain the KRA-Excise Stamp

  1. The applicant will be required to share proof of payment (Bank receipt) with the Kenya Revenue Authority Offices, Domestic Taxes Department, and obtain the following documents (KRA – Excise Stamp, Delivery Note, and Security Pass).
  2. The time frame accumulatively for processing the application is three (03) - Five (05) working days.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Every package of excisable goods, except motor vehicles, manufactured in or imported into Kenya, is required to be affixed with an excise stamp. The purpose of this is to:

  • Deter counterfeiting;
  • Facilitate tracking of the stamps and excisable goods along the supply chain;
  • Enable accounting for the production of excisable goods manufactured or imported; and
  • Facilitate any persons in the supply chain to authenticate the stamps and excisable goods.
