Kenya - Obtain a Permit to Import Restricited Chemical

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for a permit to import restricted chemicals/ substances into Kenya, the applicant has to contact the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) offices to make the application.
  2. Here the applicant will be given an Application for Permit to Import controlled substances form by a Licensing officer to fill and submit.
  3. Fill in the application and attach the required documents. A list of the can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
  4. Submit the filled in application form and required documents to the licensing officer and pay the required application fees. The application fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  5. Submit the payment receipt to the licensing officer, for review of the license application.
  6. The licensing officer may, in his discretion, issue or refuse to issue the waste transportation license.
  7. Upon successful review of the application the licensing officer will issue the import permit detailing the conditions for importation of the restricted chemical/ substance.
  8. The processing time of the application is within 14 days of receiving a complete application.
  9. The applicant will be contacted to collect the permit by the NEMA licensing officer.
  10. The applicant has to provide proof of identification when collecting the license.

EligibilityEdit

  • All Individual or companies interested in importing restricted chemical products and other related products into Kenya are eligible to make this application.



FeesEdit

  • Application for license to import controlled substance – Ksh 15,000.
  • Application for a permit to import controlled substance – Ksh 1,500.



ValidityEdit

  • A licence issued shall be valid for one year.
  • A permit issued under these Regulations, shall be valid for one shipment only.

InstructionsEdit

  • Upon successful applications and issuance of a license to an applicant, the license MUST be operationalised within six (6) months and evidence shall be required to demonstrate commencement of operations or milestones achieved towards its operationalization.
  • The Board shall also inspect the proposed location and the premises to determine their suitability for Public Gaming (Casino).

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • The holder of the permit is permitted to import restricted chemicals into Kenya.
  • No person shall import into Kenya a controlled substance unless such person has a valid permit issued by the Authority.



Information which might helpEdit

  • The application shall be in the prescribed form and the applicant shall indicate the purpose for which the controlled substance is required.
  • An application to import a controlled substance shall be made to the Authority in the prescribed Form and shall be accompanied by the prescribed fee.
  • Upon the application for a licence, the Authority may grant the licence unconditionally, impose conditions on the permit or refuse to grant the permit.
  • A permit issued under these Regulations shall relate only to the specific activity for which it was issued and shall not be transferable.
