- To obtain a Lift Registration Certificate, applicants are required to contact a DOSH-approved examiner for an inspection. - The applicant and the Plant / Equipment Examiner will schedule an inspection date, on the scheduled date the applicant is required to be present, the examiner will examine the Plant / Equipment in question and write a report finding, certify the report before issuing a copy to the applicant, where approved. Applicants are required to approve the examiner with all required documentation and information as requested.
- The applicant should then proceed to the next step, which is payment for the registration fee of Ksh.5000.00. The fees are payable to Kenya Commercial Bank, Account number: 1130057321, Account name Occupational Safety and Health Fund, Industrial Area Branch.
- Submit the Bank deposit receipt to the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services Office for validation and obtain a DOSH(Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health) official slip.
- Applicant should then proceed with filling the application, which is done on a prescribed application form, obtainable at the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services Office or directly download it using this Registration form- DOSH 20
- Upon obtaining or downloading the applicable Application Form, fill it out and submit to the Authority the completed registration form and required supporting documents as stipulated on the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- On receipt of the application file, the receiving officer shall check for completeness of the form to ensure it meets the registration requirements and registers your application as received by issuing the applicant an acknowledgment receipt.
- The receiving officer will forward the application and supporting documents to the next level officer for further scrutiny and confirmation that the application complies with all the requirements.
- After a successful documents evaluation process which is usually within 7-15 days, the director shall approve the registration of the lift, where he is satisfied that the application meets the requirements.
- Applicants should visit the Director of Occupational Health and Safety Service Office to collect the Certificate of Notification of a Lift against their identification document.
- Where the Director of Occupational Health and Safety Services refuses to issue the registration certificate, he must, if so required by the applicant, state in writing the grounds of such refusal, and the applicant may appeal the decision.
- Note: A person who is aggrieved by a decision of the Director made under this section may, within fourteen days from the date of the decision, appeal to an appeal committee appointed by the Minister of Labour.

- The Occupational Safety and Health Act requires that the occupier of any premises in which a hoist or lift is in use shall within one month after the date upon which the hoist or lift is first used, inform the Director of Occupational Safety and Health Services, in writing, of the address at which such hoist or lift is used
