Kenya - How to Obtain the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Result Slip for a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Candidate

ProcedureEdit

  • The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) is an exam administered by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) to mark the end of the secondary education level. This exam is usually administered during the month of November and results are released before the end of the year. KNEC Contact Details
  • Candidates who sat for the exam can check their results using three ways, following the announcement for the release of the KCSE results to the public by the Minister of Education:
    • Using  KNEC SMS code 20076
    • Using an online KNEC portal
    • Visiting the respective school


Apply Online
Via the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Portal

  1. Enter the URL Link on the address bar of any of the following recommended browsers; (Internet Explorer or Mozilla or Chrome).
    • Only an authorized school administrator (Principal/ Head of Institution) can access this service via the KNEC portal.
  2. Under the “Secondary School (KCSE)” section, click on the “Online Results” tab and Log into the portal by entering the user name (school KNEC code) and password. These credentials are similar to those used during the registration of candidates. Then, click on the “Login” tab.
  3. Once inside the portal, you will see several boxes. First, under the box labelled “FROM INDEX”, input the index number of the first candidate (in full), and in the box labelled “TO INDEX NUMBER’ input the last candidate’s index Number. Click on the “VIEW REPORT” tab.
  4. Wait for the result slips to load. When all the slips are loaded, click on the Menu labeled “EXPORT”. And then select the format you would like to export the KCSE Result Slips e.g. ‘WORD’ or ‘PDF’ formats.
  5. The KCSE Result slips will be downloaded for printing.
  6. Users should ensure they log out of the system when they are done with the application process. This is to avoid unauthorized access to a third party(s) who may manipulate the information.
  7. Finally, candidates can check their KCSE results by visiting their former schools a day after the official release of the exam to view their results.
  8. Each of the institutions that enter candidates for the KNEC examinations shall receive a hard copy of the institution’s examination results printout and result slips which captures the following information:
    • Institution’s Code and Name.
    • Candidates Details
    • Individual subject grades and the mean grade


Via Mobile

  1. Candidates can confirm their registration details by typing in their Index Number and Exam in the format Index number Exam (there should be no space between the two). For example 111111116589KCSE. (The Index Number should have 12 Digits).
  2. Send this SMS to 20076, across all mobile networks (Safaricom, Telkom, or Airtel phone numbers) Note that each SMS costs Sh25.00.
  3. Within a few minutes a message with the candidate’s KCSE national examination results.

EligibilityEdit

  • Only an authorized school administrator (Principal/ Head of Institution) can download and print the KCSE results via the Via National Exams in the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Portal.
  • While Candidates, parents, and guardians can view/obtain the KCSE results via mobile telecommunication services.

  • No fees are charged if the results are obtainable via the KNEC portal, however, where the results are obtained via a mobile telecommunication provider standard service fee of Ksh 25.00 is charged.
