Procedure

Electricity connections are represented by account numbers, which people use to pay and inquire with the electricity distributor, in case a KPLC customer wants to alter the name on the KCPL account he/she should contact the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). KPCL Contact Centre Details

Apply In-Person:

1. To change or transfer an existing Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Account Name, eligible applicants should visit the nearest Kenya Power Regional Offices for the services.
2. Applicants will need to submit the following documentation for validation and processing of the request to the customer care representative:
   • A letter of authority from the previous owner of the account.
   • Applicant’s national identification card.
   • The previous owner’s national identification document (cope, of course).
   • Applicant Personal Identification Number (PIN) that you can download from the Kenya Revenue Authority portal.
3. Applicant will also be requested for further information in certain unique circumstances by the KPLC customer care representative and will be required to respond according.
4. Upon satisfaction with the information provided the KPCL staff will then proceed and update the account details immediately and no fees are associated with this service.

Step 1: Register with the Kenya Power Self-Service portal (Frist time users)

1. Applicant should visit the Kenya Power Self Service portal, to be able to register as a user (Landlord or tenant), applicants should make sure there have the following;
   • Account number (for landlords only)
   • Kenyan National ID number, passport, or certificate of registration (for landlords only)
   • Working phone number (for code confirmation)
   • Working email address
2. To register as a landlord; Under the registration option select “Landlord”
   • Next select the document type (National ID number, passport, or certificate of registration)
   • Select your country
   • Enter the document number (the one you selected)
   • Select to receive code by phone number
   • Enter your phone number
   • Enter your email and confirm
   • Check to proceed
   • Accept KPLC terms and conditions
   • Send code, enter the code, and click on the “Register” tab.
   • Enter the Password twice.
   • Your KPLC account is ready, proceed to log in
3. To register as a tenant; Under the registration option select “Tenant”
   • Enter your full names
   • Select on phone (to receive activation code)
   • Enter the phone number
   • Enter your email and confirm
   • Check to proceed
   • Accept KPLC terms and conditions
   • Send code, enter the code, and click on the “Register” tab.
   • Enter the Password twice.
   • Your KPLC account is ready, proceed to log in
4. Log in to the portal by entering your email or phone number as username and password selected while signing up then click on the “Login “ tab.
5. On the menu bar click on the “New Change Holder Request” on the request window and procced to alter all details of the concerned account.
6. Upload all the supporting documentation as listed on the site, please verify all the information submitted are accurate before submitting the request for assessment.
7. Users should ensure they log out of the system when they are done with the application process. This is to avoid unauthorized access to a third party(s) who may manipulate the information.
8. Upon receipt of the request the KCPL staff will verify the authenticity of the submitted documents and information.
9. No fees are associated with this service.
10. If approved the account details will be modified and the applicant will be notified via the applicable channels.
