Procedure

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), a Universal health coverage (UHC), has introduced fingerprints to identify its members and their dependents to tackle fraud and speed up payment of medical claims. NHIF Branches contact details

Apply In Person

1. Already registered NHIF members, who are not yet enrolled in the NHIF new biometric recitation system should visit the nearest NHIF service point, huduma center, or contracted health care provider and produce identification documents i.e., a copy of their National ID/ NHIF card for verification in the database.
2. Once verified, the member’s fingerprint details will be scanned and captured into the NHIF biometric recitation system.
3. New members will also be registered biometrically to the NHIF database and issued a registration number.
4. When a member visits an accredited facility of choice, they will be identified using their fingerprint or One-time password (OTP).
5. The time frame for processing the request is within a few minutes and they are no fees associated with this service.
6. NHIF wishes to urge all members and their dependents to visit the nearest NHIF service points or contracted hospitals countrywide to be biometrically enrolled.

• Already registered members should present their NHIF card or provide their ID card number.
