Procedure

Apply Online

1. Applicant will be required to first make payment for a deposit advance of Ksh.3,500.00 for the International Coffee Organization (ICO) certificate of origin in favor of the AFA Coffee Directorate, payment should be channeled through the Directorate preferable payment mode.Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more information.
2. Upon making payment, the applicant is required to share the proof of payment ( Mpesa payment Confirmation message/ Bank deposit slip) with the Coffee Directorate cashier, applicant will then receive a coffee directorate payment receipt.
3. Applicant should then proceed with the application for an International Coffee Organization (ICO) certificate of origin, this is done online through the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP)
4. Applicants who are already registered as a user should log in to the portal using their credentials and proceed with the application process, after successful completion of this process, the applicant will receive a KESWS Submission Notification, submitted ICO certificate of origin and a KESWS payment receipt will be generated by the system.
5. Applicants that do not have an account with the TFP, will be required to register with the platform through this link: Ken trade-User Registration Page and follow prompt.
6. This is followed by the issue of a certified International Coffee Organization (ICO) certificate of origin by the Coffee Directorate office, login the Trade Facilitation Platform (TFP) to access and print the certificate.
7. The timeframe accumulatively for processing this application is usually within one (01) hour.

Eligibility

• Exporters of coffee are eligible to file the application.
• Certificates of Origin need not be issued to cover:
  • small quantities of coffee for direct consumption as stores on ships, aircraft and other international commercial carriers; and
  • samples and parcels up to a maximum net weight of 60 kg of green coffee or the equivalent thereof namely:
    • 120 kg of dried coffee cherry; or
    • 75 kg of parchment coffee; or
    • 50.4 kg of roasted coffee; or
    • 23 kg of soluble or liquid coffee.

Fees

Advance deposit KES 3,500 ICO certificate of origin deposit fee. For 50 consignments.

Payment methods:
Mobile money platform Payment can be made via MPESA paybill 400222. Account number format will be; the business code (468927) followed by (#) then the client's name. For example 468927#James. The minimum advance deposit fee is KES 3,500.

Validity

• The Certificate shall be valid to cover only the coffee described therein at the time it was issued.
