Apply In Person

  1. The application for a Livestock breeding services provider's license shall be made to the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) Office.DVS Office Location & Contact Details.
  2. First, the applicant is required to obtain a DVS semen distribution facility inspection report; this is done by booking an appointment with the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) Office inspectorate department. The request for inspection may be submitted, to DVS, through [email protected]. email address or phone call.
  3. The inspection shall be conducted by a DVS inspector within 5-10 days of booking the appointment.
  4. During the inspection the Physical presence of the owner or a representative and the technical staff who have been trained and registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board is mandatory. The time taken to carry out the inspection will depend on the size of the premises.
  5. During the inspection visit, the owner or a representative should supply the inspector with all requested documentation or information.
  6. A copy of a signed inspector’s register will be issued to the applicant, in case of any discrepancies it shall be brought to the attention of the applicant and corrective action must be taken before the inspector register is issued.
  7. After the inspection report has been vetted by the committee for approval; which is usually within 05 days, the applicant shall be notified of the approval, and the approved semen distribution facility inspection report is sent to the applicant via email.
  8. Upon obtaining the semen distribution facility inspection report, the applicant can then proceed to apply for the livestock breeding services provider’s license by completing the Application Form for Breeding Service Provider’s Permit/license obtain at the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) Office or directly download it via this link: Application Form for Breeding Service Provider’s Permit/license
  9. Submit the duly completed form attached to the supporting documentation as mentioned on the “Required Documents” section of this page and submit them to the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) Office, Animal breeding and reproductive services section.
  10. The DVS officer will verify the application documents prior to the issuance of payment advice.
  11. The applicant will be required to pay for the license fee as indicated on the payment invoice, the payment should be channeled using the Directorate's preferable payment. please refer to the fee section of this page for more information.
  12. Upon making payment, the applicant is required to share the proof of payment (Bank payment/deposit details) with the Directorate, applicant will then receive a payment confirmation notification.
  13. After the payment confirmation by the DVS officer, the applicant is issued the Livestock breeding services provider's license immediately.

  • Veterinary paraprofessional registration certificate (copy).For technical staff. OR

  • Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree (copy). OR
  • Diploma in animal science and certificate in artificial insemination in cattle sheep and goats (copy). OR

  • Certificate in animal health, production, and artificial insemination in cattle (copy)

  • Any person who wants to provide livestock breeding services in Kenya is eligible to make this application.



FeesEdit

  • The applicant is issued with an invoice mentioning the amount to be paid.


Payment methods:

  • Cash method payable at the Directorate cashier/account office
  • For MPESA payments, the Paybill number is 522522 and the account number is 1106972791. For payments made through the bank, deposits should be made to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Sarit Centre Branch, Veterinary Services Development Fund (VSDF), A/C NO: 1106972791.



ValidityEdit

  • The livestock breeding services provider's license is valid for a calendar year and should be renewed at least one (01) month before the expiration of the current license.

  • No person shall distribute or sell bull semen except under the authority of a Livestock breeding services provider's license issued by the Director of the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS).
  • Any person who distributes or sells bull semen without having first obtained a license so to do, or who distributes or sells bull semen in breach of any condition attached to his license, shall be guilty of an offense.
