Apply Online through Kemri portal

  1. To Apply for a food handler certificate, the applicant has to use the following link
  2. Applicant has to scroll down the page on Food Handler Certificate click “Apply Now” button.
  3. If the applicant is a new user, the applicant has to click the “Sign up” button.
  4. Applicant has to select any one option in “select account type”.
  5. The applicant has to enter all the details for the registration process.
  6. After completing the details click the “Submit” button.
  7. The applicant will receive the username and password by the registered email ID.
  8. Now the applicant has to log in with the username and password and click the “Login” button.
  9. Complete the online registration form and click on the “Apply for Food Handler certificate” button.
  10. The system will process the applicant's bill and generate the bill details, then the applicant will be directed to the bill information section.
  11. The applicant will be required to pay the bill through his/her phone or print the bill’s receipt and pay later.
  12. Once the applicant makes the payment, the applicant will receive a notification with details of the scheduled lab testing of the applicant’s blood and urine sample.
  13. On the scheduled date the applicant should visit the city council lab, where samples of the applicant’s urine and blood will be taken for testing.
  14. Once the tests are complete and the applicant is in a healthy state to handle food, the food handler certificate will be processed and issued to the applicant.



Apply Online At Nairobi City Council

  1. To apply for the food handler certificate online at the Nairobi City Council office, the applicant should make the application through the Nairobi Pay Portal via this link: link
  2. On the website under Services, click on the “Food Handler” tab to open the Food Handlers menu on the right side of the page.
  3. Then direct the cursor to the menu and click on the “Apply for food Handlers certificate” to be directed to the sign-in page.
  4. If the applicant has an account, then the applicant should sign in by entering his/her email address and password and if the applicant does not have an account, click on the “SIGN UP” button to create an account and enter all the required information and click on the “Create Account” button.
  5. The account will be created and the applicant will receive an SMS notification informing the applicant that the account is created successfully.
  6. Click on the “SIGN IN” button and sign into the Nairobi Pay Portal.
  7. Complete the online registration form and click on the “Apply for Food Handler certificate” button.
  8. The system will process the applicant's bill and generate the bill details, then the applicant will be directed to the bill information section.
  9. The applicant will be required to pay the bill through his/her phone or print the bill’s receipt and pay later.
  10. Once the applicant makes the payment, the applicant will receive a notification with details of the scheduled lab testing of the applicant’s blood and urine sample.

Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for a food handler certificate, the applicant should visit the nearest government health facility to get tested and obtain the certificate. Please View the location of Health Facilities in Kenya through this link link
  2. The applicant should go to the health facility in his or her region and head to the patient registration section.
  3. At the registration section, the applicant’s details will be recorded and the applicant will be required to pay the food handler certificate fee at the cashier.
  4. Pay the required fee at the cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
  5. Then the applicant will be directed to the lab, where samples of the applicant’s urine, stool, and blood will be taken for testing.
  6. Once the tests are complete and the applicant is in a healthy state to handle food, the food handler certificate will be processed and issued to the applicant.



Apply At County Council

  1. The applicant should visit the count council office and head to the reception desk.
  2. A county official at the service desk will record the applicant's details and direct the applicant to the cashier to pay the certificate fee.
  3. Upon making the payment, the applicant will be directed to the county’s lab, where samples of the applicant’s urine, stool, and blood will be taken for testing.
  4. Once the tests are complete and the applicant is in a healthy state to handle food, the food handler certificate will be processed and issued to the applicant.
