Apply In person

  1. The application for the Coffee liquorer certificate shall be made to the Interim Manager, Market Research and Product Development Department Office (Afa Coffee Directorate). Please click on this link for the, Coffee Directorate Office Location & Contact Details
  2. Applicants are required to submit an Application letter, addressed to the Interim Head, the Coffee Directorate, and the supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” of this page to the Interim Manager, Market Research and Product Development Department Office (Afa Coffee Directorate) for verification.
  3. Once applications have been made, the shortlisting process commences and qualified applicants will be notified via email, phone call, or text message and shall be required to sit for a cupping exam notification.
  4. A notice on the exam dates is shared by the Directorate on their website Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) website or Nairobi Coffee Exchange's website between January and February yearly. The notice also highlights the application deadline.
  5. The applicant is then required to make payment for the coffee liquorer certificate ksh.20,000.00 within thirty (30) days. Payment should be channeled through the Directorate preferred payment mode. Please refer to the “Fees” section of this page for more information.
  6. Upon making payment, the applicant is required to share the proof of payment (Mpesa payment confirmation message/ Bank deposit slip) with the Coffee Directorate office, applicant will then receive an AFA Coffee Directorate payment receipt; which should be produced during the exam sitting.
  7. The applicant is then required to sit for the cupping exam, which takes place in two parts i.e practical’s (papers one (1) to four (4)) are done on the first day at AFA Coffee Directorate's offices, and the theory paper is done on the second day at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange offices.
  8. Applicants will be notified of the exam results via a phone call or text message prior to collection of the physical results slips and graduation invitation letter and shall be required to produce their valid identification document to be validated by the Quality Assurance Department Office (AFA - Coffee Directorate).
  9. The coffee liquorer certificate is awarded to qualified applicants at a graduation ceremony.
  10. The time frame accumulatively for the entry process is usually 66 working days.

  • Application letter (original). Addressed to the Interim Head, Coffee Directorate.
  • Curriculum Vitae (C.V) (original). Of the applicant.
  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) Certificate. Of the applicant, with a minimum grade of a C - (minus).
  • Recommendation letter (original). From a coffee institution or employer, with a minimum of three years of working experience.
  • Diploma in coffee (copy). Applicants in possession of a certificate in coffee will have an added advantage during application. OR
    • Certificate in coffee (copy). Applicants in possession of a diploma in coffee, and one year of experience in the coffee industry or in possession of a coffee laboratory technician certificate will have an added advantage during application.
  • Identity card (copy). If the applicant is a Kenyan citizen. OR
    • Valid Passport. If the applicant is a foreigner.

EligibilityEdit

  • A person intending to act as a coffee liquorer is eligible to apply.



FeesEdit

KES 20,000 for coffee liquorer certificate.

Payment methods:

  • Cash, cheque for payments made through MPESA, the pay bill number is 400222. The account number format will be; the business code (468927) followed by (*) then the client's name. For example, 468927*James. Cheques should be drawn to AFA COFFEE DIRECTORATE. Payment can also be made at the Co-operative Bank of Kenya A/C no: 01120000543400 and Stanbic Bank A/C no: 0100000672248. The trader is then required to submit the bank deposit slip to Coffee Directorate's cash office.

  • The Coffee Liquorer Certificate is valid forever.
