- To apply for the Accreditation of Nursing Courses, the applicant should make the application to the Nursing Council of Kenya. View the Nursing Council of Kenya contact details through this Contact Details.
- The applicant should make a written application to the Nursing Council of Kenya and attach detailed documents in line with the guidelines about the following:
- The program they intend to offer.
- The physical training facility which in place.
- The main teaching hospital and any other health facilities affiliated with the training institution are used for the provision of additional clinical/practical experience if the need arises. If these additional training institutions will be used, then there should be a signed memorandum of understanding indicating the terms of the agreement.
- Staffing Profile.
- Any other information that is deemed necessary or that may be requested by the Council.
- Once the Nursing Council of Kenya receives the application, they will review the document provided and schedule a date to conduct a physical inspection on the proposed institution.
- The Nursing Council of Kenya will conduct an Inspection at the institution to determine if the institution is fit and well equipped to provide the nursing cause and compile a report on the inspection findings.
- Then the inspection report will be submitted to the Discipline, Standards, and Ethics Standing Committee.
- The committee will review the report and submit their recommendation based on the inspection report to the Nursing Council.
- The council will review the committee’s recommendation and if the council deems that the institution is fit and well equipped to adequately offer the nursing course, the Nursing Council of Kenya will approve the application.
- Then the Nursing Council of Kenya will issue the accreditation certificate to the applicant valid for five years.

- Proof of payment of application fee (for new institutions only)
- A detailed statement of vision, mission, philosophy, aims, and objectives for which the institution is established
- Particulars of incorporation or registration of the institution under any law
- Form of Governance through which the academic and administrative affairs of the institution shall be conducted
- Curriculum of instruction
- Students support services available at the institution
- List and academic qualifications of all members of staff on or expected to be on full-time employment with the institution
- List of the total number of students enrolled in each training course offered at the institution, with the specification of the number of residential students
- Size and quality of the library, information communication, and technology equipment
- Financial resources available for the exclusive use of the institution including primary sources of funding, existing budget, certified by an accountant qualified to practice as such under the Accountants Act but who is not an employee or a sponsor of the applicant
- Type, number, and size of the physical facilities including buildings and land available for the exclusive use of the institution
For new training courses, the following additional requirements must be provided:
- Statistical data to support the need for the new training course in Kenya
- List of proposed faculty
- Clinical resources including the main teaching hospital and health facilities affiliated with the training institution which shall be used for additional clinical or practical experiences
- A joint master rotation plan in areas where clinical resources are shared among institutions
- Curriculum prepared in line with prescribed NCK nursing syllabus

- Any nurse training institution offering a training course to prepare persons to be awarded a certificate, diploma, or degree in nursing are eligible to apply.

- The Nursing Council of Kenya is the accreditation authority responsible for accrediting education providers and programs of study for the nursing profession.
- They perform two forms of accreditation:
- Institutional accreditation: Limited to a program of study in professional or occupational fields.
- Professional/specialized accreditation: Limited to a program of study in professional or occupational fields.
- Any school, college, or institution conducting a nursing education program to prepare individuals to be awarded certificates, diplomas, or degrees in nursing is required to seek approval from the Nursing Council of Kenya. Such approval consists of:
- Initial approval: Official recognition granted for a new program after the Council conducts a visit to the institution to ascertain its readiness to admit students.
- Renewal: Done upon expiration of the initial approval (after 5 years). The Council shall conduct an evaluation visit to ensure that the institution meets the set standards.
