Karnataka - Link Aadhaar Card with Electricity Bill

Procedure

• As per the “Ministry of Power”, it is left to the interest of the consumers to connect Aadhaar Card with their electricity bills. However, it is not mandatory to do so.

Apply Online

1. To Link Aadhaar Card with Electricity Bill, the applicant has to make the application online via link
2. The applicant has to click the “Gruha Jyoti” icon from the option.
3. The applicant has to select the language and start entering all the details in the application form.
4. Tick the declaration, enter the captcha code and click the “Submit” button.
5. The applicant has to upload the aadhar card and Electricity bill and click the “Submit” button.
6. There is no fee for linking aadhar card with electricity bill.
7. The application will be processed, and the applicant will be notified of the outcome within a few days.

Apply In-Person:

1. Any consumer of the respective state electricity board, shall approach their concerned electricity bill payment office/counter as appropriate to link Aadhaar with electricity connection (consumer) number.

6. Please visit the respective office as applicable. The consumer should carry their electricity card or the last bill paid receipt and the Aadhaar card copy along with the original.
7. The applicant shall orally request the authority for linking the Aadhaar card with their electricity consumer number.
8. If the facility is available, the authority will start the process immediately or the authority will ask the applicant to visit the office as per notified timing.
9. At the time of process, the applicant needs to submit the Aadhaar card along with the documents as per the “Required Documents” section of this page. Please carry the registered mobile number.
10. The authorities/staff will use the details from the submitted documents and process the request using the system.
11. The applicant shall follow the authorities / staff guidelines to get the Aadhaar linked with their electricity connection.
12. A “SMS” notification will be sent to the applicant registered mobile number. Please save it for future reference.
13. There is no fee required for this service.
14. The linking will be made instantly.

• In case of not holding an Aadhaar, the consumer shall provide the following documents as per requirement.
  • Aadhaar enrolment identity or
  • A copy of request made for Aadhaar enrolment
  • Along with authorized identity documents (passbook / voter ID / ration card / PAN card / passport / driving licence)

Note: Apart from the above documents, the authorities may ask for additional information or documents. Please provide them for processing.

• Do not submit fake documents as a proof.
• If it comes to the notice of the department at a later date that particulars given by an applicant are either wrong or contrary to truth, the consumer will be subjected to department enquiry and action will be taken.

Need for the Document

• Once the Aadhaar is linked with the electricity connection, it will be easy for the department to take accountability of the consumer.
• As per the respective state government electricity norms, the subsidy is provided for the selective segment of consumers as appropriate.
• The linking of Aadhaar with the respective electricity consumer number will be helpful in avoiding any subsidy being provided to fraudulent or consumers having more than one connection.

• The owners shall check with the electricity staff about linking tenants Aadhaar, in case the house owner is not residing there and has two houses in their name.
• The subsidy plans are not same across the states/UT’s of India.
