Apply in Person

  1. To apply for updating the modification/alteration in vehicle RC book in Karnataka, the applicant has to approach the RTO office of the area.
  2. Information related to the RTO offices and registering authority can be obtained from the “Office Locations and Contacts” Section of this page.
  3. You will have to submit Application no. KMV29 in front of registering authority along with the documents. Collect the application form from the RTO office.
  4. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down in the “Required Document” section of this page.
  5. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  6. Include the changes made in the vehicle, details related to the changes that should be included in your application form can be obtained from the “information which might help” section of this page.
  7. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.
  8. The physical inspection and verification of the vehicle will be done if required in the respective office with the Transport Inspector posted for this purpose.

Apply Online via National Portal - Karnataka Change or Modify a Vehicle (Registration Certificate, RC Book) Online with Images

  1. You can apply for the modification/alteration in vehicle in RC book in Karnataka through the National Portal, the following link will give you access to the Parivahan Sewa, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India:National Portal
  2. From the dropdown menu of apply online services on the website select the “vehicle related services” option
  3. Once you select the vehicle related services, you will be redirected to the page, National Portal Homepage
  4. Click on apply online
  5. Enter Valid Vehicle Registration Number and click on Proceed
  6. Select the Service “alteration of vehicle” option by Clicking the respective Service under Online Services Menu
  7. Enter Chassis Number and Mobile Number
  8. Fill the Applicant Details as instructed and required.
  9. Enter the OTP received and Click on Show details.
  10. Enter further details as per the form displayed.
  11. Click Submit and then Confirm and Make Payment
  12. Once Payment Done, Print Receipt.
  13. If required you will have to take your vehicle to the RTO office for inspection.

Documents required to be submitted for the Change of engine number or cylinder capacity (cc)
  • You need to provide either:
(a) a receipt for the replacement engine
(b) written evidence from the manufacturer
(c) an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
(d) written confirmation on headed paper from a garage (if the change took place before you bought the vehicle)
Documents required to be submitted Change of fuel type
  • You need to provide evidence if:
(a) your existing engine is converted – the confirmation must be on headed paper from the garage that did the work
(b) a new engine is fitted – provide the receipt as confirmation
Documents required to be submitted for Change of weight of a larger vehicle
  • If you change the weight of a large vehicle (eg a campervan or goods vehicle), you’ll need to provide either:
(a) a plating certificate
(b) a design weight certificate
Change of body type
  • RTO will need photographic of the completed conversion showing the changes made, along with a description of the work carried out and any receipts.

  • Any person who has changes in his vehicle needs to apply for modification of the vehicle details in the RC Book.

ValidityEdit


  • Registration of a vehicle will be valid for 15 years from the date of issue of it and after that registration of non transport vehicle will be renewed according to the rules in every 5 years and the transport vehicle will be re-registered which will be valid for 15 years.

It is used primarily by governments as a means of ensuring that all road vehicles are on the national vehicle register, but is also used as a form of law enforcement and to facilitate change of ownership when buying and selling a vehicle. Hence, it is important to update your RC Book with the changes made in the vehicle.

You must update your registration certificate if you change any of the following
(i) colour
(ii) engine
(iii) cylinder capacity (cc)
(iv) fuel type
(v) chassis or bodyshell (replaced or modified)
(vi) seating capacity
(vii) weight of a large vehicle, eg goods vehicle or campervan

You must also update your registration certificate if you change any of the following
(i) wheel plan
(ii) body type, (body type description based on the vehicle’s external appearance)
(iii) vehicle identification number (VIN)
(iv) chassis number
(v) frame number for motorbikes
