Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Ration Card holder should approach to any one of the nearest ration card SevaKendras (Ration Shops) and start the process by going through Biometric authentication procedure. In rural areas, visit their respective Gram Panchayath office computer center.
2. In order to change the family head name in the ration card, the applicant shall approach any one of the nearest ration card SevaKendras (Ration Shops) and start the process by going through Biometric authentication procedure. 4. Go to the respective office and collect the application form or write on a plain A4 sheet as advised.
5. Complete the application form. Attach the required documents as per our “Required Documents” section of this page and submit it to the designated receiving authority.
6. Authorities after checking the submitted application along with attached documents will make entries and provide you record number for reference.
7. Keep it safe for future reference.
8. This application will be processed further to issue the ration card with updated family head name as per notified period.
9. The ration card will be delivered as per applicable norms.

Eligibility

• Following are the situations where a head of the family shall be changed.
  • In case the head of the family demises.
  • In case of divorce.

Fees

• Fee information can be obtained directly from the department office while applying.

Validity

• The validity remains the same.
• Usually Family identity card is valid for lifetime and will be renewed in 5 years or based on announcement.

Instructions

• Avoid spelling mistakes while filling the application form.
• Do not submit fake documents as a proof to change the family head name.
• In case the mobile number associated with your card is not in service, then apply to replace the mobile number.

Need for the Document

• For implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS), Ration Card is being issued to all the heads of families, with details about family members included in the card. In some states, the government grants financial sanctions and other benefits to the woman family head as per ration card. To avail those benefits, the family head in the ration card need to be changed from respective husband to wife.
