Procedure

A ration card/Smart ration card needs to be cancelled in order to obtain Surrender Certificate so that consumer can apply for new one under certain circumstances like marriage, relocation, transfer etc.
Apply In-Person

1. In order to cancel ration card, please apply with any one of the nearest ration card SevaKendras (Ration Shops) and start the process by going through Biometric authentication procedure. In rural areas, visit their respective Gram Panchayath office computer center as applicable.

3. Applicant shall go in person to these centers.
4. Submit a request along with your existing ration and set of required document to the authority / officer in the office.
5. After the document required are checked, online process will be initiated by the officer.
6. Applicants need to provide Aadhaar based bio-metric authentication at the stage of filing application.
7. After the above steps are completed. Authority will process the request online as per their norms. A fee of 50 rupees or as per the government norms need to be paid for the service.
8. Applicant gets acknowledgment for this transaction. Please save it for future reference.
9. This application will be processed further.
10. Applicant gets information through SMS.
11. Applicant will be provided with a surrender certificate for the cancellation as per the deliverable period.

Fees

• Fee information can be obtained directly from the respective office while applying.

Validity

• Cancelled or submitted ration card is no longer valid.
• Usually Family identity card is valid for lifetime and will be renewed in 5 years or based on announcement.

Need for the Document

• For implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS), Ration Card is being issued to all the heads of families, with details about family members included in the card. Based on their economic condition, people can buy goods like food grains, sugar and kerosene with the help of their ration cards.
• If a consumer needs to submit or cancel his/her ration card for applying new one at the place where he/she got transferred.
• Surrender certificate is required from the old ration shop to apply with the ration department in the new area.
