Apply In-Person for Fresh License
- Make sure you have the respective application form for applying. Link for application form: Application link
- Make sure that applicant is eligible for applying.
- Please make sure that the documents are in hand before applying.
- Please approach SHO in Districts/AO/AAO in Cop’s and Submit the completed application form. Please find the link for Karnataka state police department: Link1 AND Link2
- After the application is received, proper entry of records in registry will be made and then request will be forwarded to process.
- Respective department will contact the applicant for inquiry.
- Competent authorities make through assessments regarding
- threat based requirements of the arms by the applicant
- capabilities of use
- safe handling of the arms by the applicant,
- physical fitness of the applicant for capabilities of handling the arms,
- Background,
- antecedent, etc..
- The report will be sent to SDPO ACP
- SDPO ACP will forward the report to DPO DCP
- In cities, DCP with his remark forward reports to COP for final disposal and decision is taken accordingly to submits its reports through the Divisional DCP.
- If the application is considered and granted by the competent authority, the applicant shall fill in NDAL (National Database on Arms License)Data Input Form : Link for form
- Submit it to the Arms Act Department for uploading in the National Database and generate Unique ID.
- Note: second appeal in case of rejection can be applied to SDPO/DCP(Admin) in Bangalore city/DCP (LO)in other COPs.
Apply for Renewal
- Please approach SHO in Districts/AO/AAO in Cop’s office. Please find the link for Karnataka state police department: online contact link AND online link
- Complete the application for renewal as obtained / advised by respective authorities, one month before the date of expiry of arms license.
- Make sure that the documents are in hand before applying.
- The licensee should produce his/her license and weapon for inspection at the time of renewal and pay the renewal fees.
- If the Licensee is a senior citizen, the competent authority may verify physical fitness and mental alertness.
- If required, address and current antecedent may be verified through local PS. Renewal will be done immediately and the necessary thing about renewal will be made in the license.

ValidityEdit
- A license shall unless revoked earlier, continue in force for a period of three years from the date on which it is granted.
- However, such a license may be granted for a shorter period if the person by whom the license is required so desires or if the licensing authority for reasons to be recorded in writing considers in any case that the license should be granted for a shorter period.
- Every license shall, unless the licensing authority for reasons to be recorded in writing otherwise decides in any case, the renewable for the same period for which the license was originally granted and shall be so renewable from time to time.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Indian national can claim a license for self defense, general security, sports-Shooting etc.,
- Any person who wishes to carry firearms must first secure a license and has to renew before the period of license lapse.
- Every application for the grant of a license shall be submitted in respective form (usually Form A).
- Arm license (also known as a gun license) is a license or permit issued by government to an eligible individual.
- It need to be renewed before the validity lapses.

- Any foreign National is allowed to own and bear arms for a maximum period of 6 months during their stay in India, given valid reasons.
- Any Indian who is returning to India and has owned a gun in his foreign residence for over 2 years, can apply for an Indian license and bring back the gun they owned abroad.
