Karnataka - Apply for Fishing Net License or Permit

Before applying for the fishing net license make sure that you have registered your fishing net with the Department of Fisheries. The application for registration as well as the license of the fishing net must be made within 15 days of acquiring it.
Apply In-Person:
- Applicants must visit the offices or sub-offices of the Department of Fisheries in their respective districts to apply for “License of Fishing Net”. Contact Link
- Collect the application form for “License of Fishing Net” from the office of fisheries.
- Fill up the form completely with the necessary information. Make sure you do not leave any mandatory field in the form blank.
- Check that you have all the documents in hand that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Attach the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below with the completed application form.
- Pay the required application fee to the concerned authority.
- The verification officer after validating the application form and the documents will provide you with an acknowledgement/receiving slip.
- Collect the acknowledgement/receiving slip and keep it safe for future reference.
- The application form and the documents will be further verified internally.
- If the verification authority is satisfied with the report then they will process the license.
- Once it is processed, and the license is ready, the applicant will receive an SMS or call on the registered mobile number to collect it.
- The applicant will be required to carry the acknowledgement/receiving slip along with them when going to collect the license from the office or sub-office of the Department of Fisheries of their respective district.

- Collect the “Fishing Net License” application form from the office of fisheries.
- Complete the form with the necessary information and make sure you have all the documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- After filling the form, attach the documents mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below with the completed application form.
- Check the application form and then submit it to the data entry operator.
- Now pay the required application fee to the concerned authority.
- After physical verification of the application form and the documents, the data entry officer will enter the data and upload the documents in the ‘RealCraft’ Portal and submit it. RealCraft Portal
- Data operator will provide you with an acknowledgement/receiving slip.
- Collect the acknowledgement/receiving slip and keep it safe for future reference.
- Once the operator submits the application in the portal, it will directly go to the verification officer.
- The application form and the documents will be further verified internally.
- If the verification authority is satisfied with the report then the license will be processed.
- Once it is processed, and the license is ready, the applicant will receive an SMS or call on the registered mobile number to collect it.
- The applicant will be required to carry the acknowledgement/receiving slip along with them when going to collect the license from the office or sub-office of the Department of Fisheries of their respective district.

InstructionsEdit
- It is mandatory to register as well as obtain a license for the fishing net within 15 days of acquiring it.
- Make sure you have registered your fishing net before applying for the license.
- Using the fishing net without registration and license will lead to a fine of INR 500 along with seizure or destroying of fishing gear.
- If caught for the second time with unregistered and unlicensed fishing net (with the same or different fishing net) a fine of INR 2,000 will be imposed and/or suspension of Fishing License for six months.
- If caught for the 3rd time with unregistered and unlicensed fishing net (with the same or different fishing net), it will lead to the cancellation of Fishing License and confiscation of the boat.

- The government of India provides various aids to the fishermen and their families which can be availed only by having the registration certificate and license of fishing gears.
- The government of India provides various upliftment programs such as education quota, employment opportunities, and various welfare schemes to fishermen and their families on the basis of the registration certificate and license of fishing gears.
- The government of India also provides subsidies to fishermen having the registration certificate and license of fishing gears.

- Use only the fishing net which has been allowed for fishing by the Government of India.
- Using ring net having mesh size below 25mm is prohibited.
- Using gill net having mesh size below 4cm is prohibited.
- Using or installation of operation of surface or submerge artificial lights / LED lights, Fish light attractors or any other light equipment with or without generator on fishing nets is prohibited.
- Any person who wants to erect a fishing stake in Inland water should make a separate application as prescribed by the concerned authorities.
