Apply In-Person

  1. Application can be filed at any service kiosk located at Bangalore One/ Karnataka One/ Private franchises/ Janasnehi Kendra/ Grama Panachayath/ POS shops by paying application fee Rs. 50/-
  2. Applicant and the family members to be added need to provide Aadhaar based bio-metric authentication at the stage of filing application. For children below 5 years, bio-metric authentication is not required but Aadhaar card is mandatory.
  3. The application is sent automatically to the concerned Ward/ Grama Panchayath official for verification through computer software.
  4. The concerned official visits the house of the applicant for verification and approves the ration card, if the applicant is found eligible.
  5. The applicant is informed through SMS at various stages i.e., Advance intimation about date of visit of the official to his place of residence for verification of his application, Approval/Rejection of his application.
  6. After ground level verification ration card will be issued in 2 – 3 weeks.
  7. Ration card is delivered to the doorstep of the applicant through Speed post within 15 days from the date of filing application under SAKALA. The applicant is required to pay Rs. 70/-to the post man.



Apply Online

  1. Visit the department website using URL http://ahara.kar.nic.in and then select e-services menu.
  2. In the given page please Select “New ration card (APL)” from the e-Ration card option to reach next page.
  3. On the next page select “New Ration Card Request” to apply for new ration card.
  4. Please select the type of ration card in the given page to reach another page.
  5. The page will prompt for entering Aadhaar details and prompt for authenticating the same. Please select appropriate options to finish the requirement and hit Go.
  6. The resulting screen gives details of person. If there is any unwanted name included in the list, please delete them. Click on the ADD button to add family member with relationship.
  7. After adding family members please select Next stage tab to reach the page for entering contact details.
  8. Finally hit “Save” button to save the application.
  9. Please keep the transaction details safe. The applicant is informed through SMS at various stages.
  10. From this point onwards, apply in person procedure process (sending file to respective ward – verification – Issue of card) will be applicable to issue the ration card.

  • A copy of original residential proof.
  • A copy of age certificate / school leaving certificate of the head of the family.
  • A copy of income proof of the family - that income of the family is below from the prescribed limit.
  • A copy of identity proof like voter ID card, driving license, Aadhar card.
  • Passport size photograph of the applicant.
  • Self Declaration and Certificate From Pradhan/Ward Councillor.
  • Mobile number or Email addresses may be filled up in the format to enable this department to send an automated message to the applicant on the status of the application.
  • A self addressed and stamped postal cover or postcard to enable the office to communicate the results to the applicant.
  • Tenancy agreement if the applicant is a tenant.

EligibilityEdit

  • The applicant and his/her family must be Indian citizens and should be resident of the state.
  • The applicant or his family members must not possess any family card in any State in India (If they had one, it has to be withdrawn).
  • The applicant and members of the family must be close relatives.
  • If you are newly married and have your name in your family ration card, you and your spouse should get name deletion certificates (Removing names from your respective family cards).

  • Rupees 50 will be charged while filing application.
  • Rupees 75 will be charged for the speed post delivery.



ValidityEdit

Family identity card is valid for lifetime and will be renewed based on announcement.

InstructionsEdit

The Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Government of Karnataka enforces The Essential Commodities Act 1955 and various Control Orders issued thereunder to ensure proper control of the supply and distribution of, and trade and commerce in, certain commodities. The Department also administers the Targeted Public Distribution System which is an important constituent of the strategy for food security to the population Below Poverty Line.

In urban areas, aspirants of ration card must apply online. In rural areas, aspirants (who cant apply online) can visit panchayat or tahsildar offices and pay Rs 10 to apply.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • For implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS), Ration Card is being issued to all the heads of families, with details about family members included in the card. Based on their economic condition, people can buy goods like food grains, sugar and kerosene with the help of their ration cards.
  • If a person wants to apply for ration card, then he / she have to apply to the rationing office of his area. Ration card is issued by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department.
  • The government also offers temporary ration cards valid for shorter periods of time which will help provide relief under special circumstances.
  • Ration card is an essential document through which a person’s nationality is identified.
  • Ration card is essential to apply for passport, PAN card or a domicile certificate or to even get the name registered for electoral rolls to get a Voter ID.

  • The eligible sections of the society are provided with food grains and other items at highly subsidized rates.
  • Ration card is categorized as follows.
    • Priority House Hold (PHH) Ration Card: PHH ration card is provided for the people belonging to the rural households
    • Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Ration Card: AAY ration card was issued to the families whose annual income is below Rs.15000 is liable to get food grains at a cheaper cost.
    • Annapurna Yojana (AY) Ration Card: Annapurna Yojana (AY) Ration Card is a special type of ration card issued only to the poor people above 65 years. They are entitled to 10kgs of food grain on a monthly basis from the government
    • Non-Priority Categories (NPHH): Non-Priority House Holds (NPHH) will get only the ration card but are not eligible to get subsidized food grains as priority ration cards (PHH) receive in Karnataka state.
