How to Register
Individual Registration

  1. The Corporate in charge for processing and issuing Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) in Jamaica is the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ). You can view their contact detail via this link: Link
  2. Obtain the application form of Individual TRN registration from the TAJ website through this link: Link or download it directly via this link:Link
  3. Complete the application form with the correct information and attach all the required documents to it.
  4. Visit any of the TAJ office and submit your application to the TAJ official at the TRN service desk.
  5. The official will verify your application and enter your data in the TAJ system and generate a TRN number for you.
  6. The TRN card will then be processed and issued to you, you can either visit the TAJ office to obtain the card or have it mailed to your address.


Application by Mail

  1. Once you have completed your application form, have a copy of your identification document notarised by a public notary and attach it to the application form
  2. Then mail the complete application to the Tax Administration Jamaica via their mailing address:
    Taxpayer Registration Centre
    Shops 26-27, Kingston Mall
    Jamaica W.I.
  3. Your application will be processed and you will be sent the TRN number in your email while the card is being processed
  4. Then the TRN card will be mailed to you or you can opt to visit TAJ office to collect in person


Application by a third party

  1. If you are unable to submit the application by yourself, you can choose a representative to submit the complete application on your behalf to the TAJ office alongside your Identification document


Application form Overseas

  1. If you are in abroad, obtain the application form for Individual TRN registration form the TAJ website through this link: Link or download it directly via this link: Link you can also check with the Jamaican embassy in your country if they issue the application form or obtain it form their website
  2. Complete the application form accordingly and the have a copy of your Identification document certified by the Jamaican consulate or get it notarised by a public notary and attach it to the application form
  3. Then mail the complete application to the Tax Administration Jamaica via their mailing address:

    Shops 26-27, Kingston Mall 
    Jamaica W.I.
  4. Your application will be processed and you will be sent the TRN number in your email while the card is being processed
  5. Then the TRN card will be mailed to you via your mailing address


Organization Registration

  1. Organization are eligible to apply for the TRN submit the complete application to the Tax Administration Jamaica
  2. Obtain the application form for Organization TRN registration from the TAJ website through this link: Link or download it directly via this link: TRN_Form 2_(JUL 28 2016): Designer (jamaicatax.gov.jm)
  3. Complete the application form correctly and attach the required documents to it
  4. Then you can submit the complete application to TAJ office or send it by mail to this address:

    Jamaica W.I.
  5. Upon verification of the application, TAJ will generate the organization TRN number and send it to you through your email address if you applied by mail or issue it to you if you applied in person
  6. And then they will process the TRN card which you can collect in person form TAJ office or have mailed to you


Online Registration - Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) Online with Images

  1. To apply for TRN online, visit the TAJ Website [www.jamaicatax.gov.jm Link] and log in to the TAJ Web Portal by click on “Login” at the top conner of the right side of the page
  2. Enter your user name and password if you already have an account or click on “Create Account” to setup your account. In the new page, fill the required field and click on “Next”
  3. You will then receive a notice thanking you for creating your account, and issue your account password and that the password has been sent to your email address
  4. Now key in your password and sign in, then read and agree to the provide policy and you will be direct to the next page where you will be asked a password remainder question. Answer the question and click on “Save” then you will be directed to your account’s eservice portal
  5. Scroll down to select “Apply for a TRN” hyperlink and you will be directed to a default “Instructions” page giving basic information about the service, what will be needed, and what to expect at the end of the process and read information provided and click on “Next” to complete the online registration form
  6. In the new page, select the type of your application and generate application and click on the Next button to go to the “Applicants Details” page and the require details and click on next to complete the application and attaching all the required documents
  7. Then review all the information that you have provided and submit your application, upon submit, a confirmation number will be automatically generated and displayed on the screen
  8. Select “OK” to return to the e‐Services page, or “Printable View” to print the Confirmation message
  9. Upon verification of the application, you should visit the TAJ office with printed copy of the taxpayer Registration Number generated.
  10. You will also be required to sign the form in the section designated for signature and present it along with the applicable Identification or Supporting Documents as per relevant TRN Requirements.
  11. Then the TRN card will be processed and issued to you Note that: Applicants submitting applications from outside Jamaica will be required to mail their signed application form and notarized copies (by a Notary Public) of supporting documents to Tax Administration Jamaica and the TRN card will be mailed to them after processing

Required DocumentsEdit

When applying for a TRN, individuals, sole proprietors and the various types of organizations must submit specified documentation to support their application. It should be noted that only original and certified copies of documents are accepted.

For Individuals:

  • Completed application
  • Passport OR Driver’s License OR
  • National ID/Voters ID, Work ID, School ID, professionally produced certified, passport size photograph or any other photographic ID MUST be used with Birth Certificate (and Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll if applicable)
  • Self-employed persons need to submit their NIS card and If trade name is different from applicants name the Business Name Registration Certificate is needed

Notes:

  • Photographs must be certified by anyone of the following: Justice of the Peace, Minister of Religion/ Marriage Officer, Judge/ Resident Magistrate, Attorney-at-Law, Member of Parliament, Parish Councilor, Medical Doctor, School Principal, Civil Servant (SEG3 and above) or Police Officer at the rank of Inspector or above. Photographs must also be certified within the past six months to be acceptable. Certification should include the following: certified to be a true photograph of .., name and title of Certifying Officer, Signature of Certifying Officer, date of certification, Official Stamp of certifying officer (not required for JPs). JPs should quote their assigned JP numbers
  • Certified Photographs must be accompanied by a Declaration from the Certifying Official. The address on application must match the address on Declaration by Certifying Official. A blank declaration can be collected from your local Tax Office or downloaded online through Tax Administration Jamaicas website.


For Individuals submitting applications from overseas:

  • Completed application
  • A copy of applicants Passport OR Drivers Licence (notarized by a Notary Public). Passport or Drivers License must include the applicants name (full last and first name), date of birth, photograph and signature.
  • If someone is being authorized to collect the TRN card an authorization letter from the applicant should be attached, stating the name of the person authorized to collect the card.

Note: TRN Cards for applicants who submitted their forms via mail from overseas will then be mailed to applicants address as stated on application. If the Identification or supporting documents are not in English, an official translated version is also required. The signature on the application form must match that on the Identification presented. Application forms can be downloaded online through Tax Administration Jamaicas website.

For Minors (Persons Under 18 Years):
Applications for minors should be completed and signed and/or co-signed by either a parent or guardian.
Application signed by a parent should be submitted with the following:

  • Childs birth certificate
  • Professionally produced, certified passport size photograph or picture identification for child
  • Identification & TRN of the parent

Note: The birth certificate must show the name of the parent who signed the application.

Application signed by a guardian should be submitted with the following:

  • Childs birth certificate
  • Professionally produced, certified passport size photograph or picture identification for child
  • Identification & TRN of the guardian
  • Court order verifying the legal guardian OR
  • Voluntary Declaration from the Guardian AND Voluntary Declaration from an Attestor (A person who knows of the Guardian/Child relationship)

Notes:

Incapacitated Adults (Persons Who Are Unable To Sign / Make A Mark):
Application signed by Caretaker should be submitted with the following:

  • An appropriate ID for the applicant:
    • Passport OR Drivers Licence OR
    • National ID/Voters ID, Work ID, School ID, professionally produced, certified passport size photograph or any other photographic ID MUSTbe used with Birth Certificate (and Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll if applicable)
  • Identification & TRN of the Caretaker
  • Power of Attorney OR
  • Medical Certificate, Voluntary Declaration from the Caretaker AND Voluntary Declaration from an Attestor (A person who knows of the Caretaker/Incapacitated Adult relationship)

Notes:

  • Photographs must be certified by anyone of the following: Justice of the Peace, Minister of Religion/ Marriage Officer, Judge/ Resident Magistrate, Attorney-at-Law, Member of Parliament, Parish Councilor, Medical Doctor, School Principal, Civil Servant (SEG3 or above) or Police officer at the rank of Inspector or above. For Partnerships:

  • Completed Organization form signed by a Partner
  • Business Name Registration Certificate (if applicable)
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • NIS Card & TRN for each Partner
  • ID for Signatory Officer

Note: NIS is not required for partners who are over the age of 60 or who reside overseas.

For Companies (Jamaican):

  • Completed Organization Form signed by a Director or the Company Secretary
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Companies that were registered before February 1, 2005:
    • Articles of Association (if the Directors are not named in the Articles of Association, either the Form 12, Form 13 or Form 23 will be needed).
  • Companies registered as of February 1, 2005:
    • Articles of Incorporation (if the Directors are not named in the Articles of Incorporation a form 23 will be needed).
    • If application form is signed by Company Secretary the Form 20 will be needed.
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • TRN for each Director
  • ID for Signatory Officer



For Overseas Companies (Has No Established Place of Business in Jamaica):

  • Completed Organization form signed by a Director
  • Registration and/or Charter Documents (issued in country of origin)
  • ID for Signatory Officer
  • Letter from company indicating that it is not operating nor has a established business place in Jamaica

Note: Only original or notarized copies of the Registration or Charter Documents are accepted. If the Identification or supporting documents are not in English, an official translated version is also required.

For Overseas Companies (Operating or Has Established Place of Business in Jamaica):

  • Completed Organization form signed by a Director or the Local Representative
  • Letter of Registration (issued by the Companies Office of Jamaica)
  • Verification of NIS registration (NIS Verification/Clearance Letter or Payment Card)
  • Form 19 or 31 (issued by Companies Office of Jamaica) stating Local Representative and Directors

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A TRN is a unique nine-digit identification number issued to an individual taxpayer, business enterprise, organization (non-profit, partnership, charity, etc.) by way of an automated system.
