Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for a solar water heater loan, you should visit the National Housing Trust (NHT) office to submit the application if you meet the required criteria outlined in the “Instructions” section below. You can view the NHT contact details via this link: Link
2. If you meet the required criteria, visit any NHT Office and collect a Solar Water Heater Fact Sheet
3. Once you have all the documents, contact any NHT Office for an interview date.
4. On the appointment date, arrive on time and with all the required documents for the interview.
5. Upon a successful interview, an NHT Loan’s Officer will process the loan and issue a Letter of Commitment to you.
6. Then the NHT will complete processing of the loan and make payments to the you or the supplier solar water heater
7. Once the funds are disbursed, the NHT will inform the you in writing when you should begin repaying the loan

Required Documents

• N.I.S. Card
• T.R.N. Card (for all loan applicants and persons whose names appear or will appear on the title).
• If employed to a company: Verification of Gross Income and Contributions letter from past and present employers this should be valid for 3mths
• Last two pay slips from present employer.
• Mortgage memo on your account if self-employed
• Proof of Age (Certified copy of Birth Certificate or valid Passport)
• Acceptable means of Identification (valid Driver’s License; Passport; National Voter’s Registration Card; or Identification issued by present employer, bearing photograph and identification number with a future expiry date.
• One Current passport-sized photograph.
• Duplicate Certificate of Title or Copy of Registered Title for property in the name of contributor that is applying for the solar water heater loan (not required if property is mortgaged to NHT) AND
• Current Statement of Account from Mortgage Institution if Title is being held by another Institution, stating:
  • Volume & Folio numbers of the Title
  • Amount Borrowed & Balance outstanding
  • Interest rate
  • Current status of account
  • Mortgage term & monthly payment
• Proforma Invoice from Supplier (Supplier must be compliant with NHT) with the following information:
  • Cost for supplying and installing solar water heater (as per specifications overleaf)

• All NHT contributors between the ages of 18 and 65 and recognized institutions

Fees

• Application is free

Validity

• You can borrow at an interest rate of 3% over a maximum period of 5 years with a 5% service charge

Processing Time

• The processing time depends on the date you will select for loan interview and once you attend the interview, NHT will process and pay the loan payment within 90 days from the date of the interview

Instructions

As an Individual you should determine if:

• Are you applying to receive your first Solar Water Heater Loan?
• Do you have a registered title for a residential property or sufficient funds in your NHT Contribution Accounts to use as security for the loan?
• Do you earn an income that allows you to repay the loan?
• Are you now contributing to the NHT?
• Have you made at least 52 weekly contributions, 13 of which were made during the last 26 weeks?
• Has your mortgage been free from arrears in the last 12 months if you are currently a mortgagor?
• Are you able to account for your contributions and have paid up, with interest, any outstanding contributions due in the last 3 years (12 months if you are a Voluntary Contributor earning less than $7,500)?
• Are you between the ages of 18 and 65 years?

As an Institution you should determine if:

• Are you applying to receive your first Solar Water Heater Loan?
• Have you been established for at least 5 years?
• Are you up to date with your contributions (that is Annual Returns and employee contributions are current)?
• Do you have proof of income and the ability to repay the loan?
• Can you demonstrate the capacity to repay the loan without a negative impact on your operations?
• Do you possess documentation that clearly outlines persons with authority to conduct legal/business transactions on behalf of your institution?
• Can you show that your institution’s Constitution gives it the authority to borrow?
