Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. The organisation in Charge of Firearms in Jamaica is the Firearms Licencing Authority (FLA) and you can view there contact details through this link: Link however, if you need to replace a defective firearm, you can do so through a legally registered firearms dealer in you region
2. Visit the Firearm Dealers office to obtain the firearm replacement application form or download load it form the FLA website: Link and scrolled to find “Application for licence, certificate or permit” then click on it to open the form or download the form directly via this link: Link
3. Now, fill the application form accordingly in own handwriting and ensure that you mark the correct checkbox for your application in Section “A” of the application form i.e. under “Replacement, mark “Defective”
4. Submit the defective firearm to the firearm dealer alongside the firearm license card and license fee certificate.
5. The firearm dealer’s armourer will then examine the firearm and if found that it is defective beyond economic repair or if repaired, its efficiency cannot be guaranteed.
6. The armourer completes, signs and stamps the relevant section of the Form and submits same with a letter outlining the details of the defect to the FLA.
7. Then the firearm is placed in irrevocable safekeeping by the Firearm Dealer for collection by the Firearm Licensing Authority.
8. Then the FLA will process the requesting of replacing the firearm and a new firearm with all the relevant documents for the firearm dealer and then collect the defective firearm form the dealer
9. Visit the dealers shop to obtain the new firearm with all it relevant documents

• The application form is a multipurpose form, so make sure to select the correct reason for your application in section A of the application form i.e. In section A of the form, under Application type; Replacement, mark “Defective”
• License must be current, if not then all outstanding fees must be paid first
