How to Appy
- To register for National Insurance Scheme (NIS), you should visit NIS office. please view the NIS contact details in “Offices and Contact” section below
- Obtain the application form for registration form any of the NIS office or download it form the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's website at Link and click on “Social Security Division” in the information bar to open the hyperlink and then select “National Insurance Scheme (NIS)” read the provided information as you scroll down to find (Download NIS Forms) and open the hyperlink to find NIS forms for Employer Registration and Individual Registration
- You can also obtain the application directly via this link: Individual registration: Link for Employer Registration: Link
- Read and complete the application form accordingly
- Submit the complete application to the NIS office in your parish along with the original or notarised copy of document proving your age i.e. birth certificate or passport
- The NIS official will verify your application if it meets the required standard and enter your details into their system for processing
- Then application will be processed and you will be issued with a NIS registration Number
NOTE:
- Married women must also submit the original or notarised copy of their marriage certificate if their proof of name is the birth certificate or if their married name is not recorded in their passport.
- If you are unable to submit the application by yourself, you can send a third part with an authorisation letter to act on your behalf.

- All persons who are gainfully occupied in insurable employment are required to be registered, providing that they are between the ages of 18 and 70 males and 18 and 65 females.

- NIS registration is compulsory to all employed persons in Jamaica. It is administered under the National Insurance Act and offers some financial protection to you and your family against loss of income arising from injury on the job, sickness, retirement and/or death of the bread winner among other many other benefits
