Apply In-Person
- To apply for a Spirit license, you should visit the Resident Magistrate's Court in your parish to make an application to the Clerk of Court and you will also need to submit a duplicate copy of this application to the superintendent of police in your area.
- Obtain the application form for application a spirit license form from the nearest police. You can view a sample in “Documents to Uses” section below.
- Complete the application form clearly stating all the required details stated in the “Instructions” section below.
- Then make an application to the health public department to obtain the health certificate.
- Visit the Inland Revenue department to pay the licence duty and stamp duty on the licence.
- Then submit the complete application to the Resident Magistrate's Court in your parish and a duplicate of the application to the superintendent of police in your area.
- Then the license will be processed at the Magistrate's Court and they will conduct an inspection in your premise to determine, if it is suitable to be issued a spirit license.
- You will be summoned by the clerk of the Magistrate's Court for a court hearing regarding your application and the decision made by the court.
- Upon a successful application, you'll be contacted by the clerk within approximately 14 days from the date of the granting of the licence.
Note:
- Before you begin to apply, you’ll need to identify what type of license you will need for your business. You should know that the various types of spirit license:
- Wholesale license
- Town retail license
- Town-off license
- Village retail license
- Tavern license
- Hotel license
- Occasional special license
- Club license
- The application submission must be made at least 21 days before one of the fixed dates for application hearings. You must visit the court session to be granted the licence.
- The licence may be refused by the Licence Authority if the premises are deemed unfit for such business operation.

The application should include the following:
- The nature of the license applied for
- A full description of the premises for which the same is desired and as nearly as may be the situation of the same
- A clear statement indicating whether you have ever before held a license under the spirit license Act or Law 31 of 1905 which is now repealed and if so when and where and whether your licence was at any time forfeited
- A clear statement indicating whether the premises for which the license is desired have, within the twelve months immediately preceding the application, been licensed under the spirit license Act
- Establish that you are able to read and write the English language and to keep account books in English
- A clear statement indicating whether you have at any time within five years before your application been convicted of any offence against the spirit license Act.

- This license proves that you can sell alcohol as required by law and it is illegal to operate a business that sell alcohol without having a Spirit Licence and persons found operating without a licence will be charged
