Jamaica - Obtain Import Permit for Zoo Animal

Procedure

Apply Online

1. To apply for the import permit for Zoo Animals, you should apply to the Veterinary Service Division (VSD) through the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Trade System (MOATRADE).You can view the VSD contact details via the contacts provided in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
2. Visit the MOATRADE website:Link
3. On the website, enter your User name and Password to log in if you already have an account or click on the “Not yet registered” option to be directed to the central registration system
4. Provide the User information, Personal Information, Contact Information, account details, and select “Ministry of Agriculture & Lands” under “Agency Selection” Then click on “Continue” to go to the next page
5. Choose the permit type i.e., Veterinary import, and submit your application for processing
6. Upon submission of the application, an email will be sent to your address advising you of the approval and how to proceed
7. Log into your MOATRADE account and on your Dashboard under “VETERINARY IMPORT”, click on “Apply for Import Permit from Veterinary Services Division” to go to the Import permit online form
8. Enter the required details including the; Taxpayer registration details, Consignee Name, and the Consignor Country and select additional items from the Item box and click on “Continue” to submit your application
9. Once the VSD receives your application, a Supervisor of the Veterinary Permits will review the application and place the application for risk assessment and requests for the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) approval letter. (that is, you have note applied for the approval letter)
10. Then the supervisor will send the application to the director of the VSD for the director’s recommendation
11. The director will send the application to the Dairy Board for their consideration of the application
12. If the director rejects the application, the supervisor will update the application status on the E-Trade system as rejected and you will be able to print the rejection invoice
13. If the application is approved, the supervisor will update the application as approved
14. Then pay the application fee online using a debit or credit card or at the Cashier located at the Veterinary Services Division, MICAF 193 Old Hope Road, and Kingston 6 and obtain the payment receipt
15. Then the VSD will complete processing your import permit and issue it to you as a print out on the E-Trade system

Note: that you can obtain the NEPA approval before submitting your application for the permit, in this case, you will attach is a required supporting document
