Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for the importation permit, you should visit the Fisheries division, Aquaculture branch under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF), please the contact details below under “Office Locations & Contacts” section.
  2. Write a letter addressed to the fisheries division aquaculture branch requesting for the permit. Note that the application must have the following details:
    • Quantity of fish
    • Species name: local and scientific
    • Country of origin
    • Address of Importers facility
  3. And for permits vetted by the Ornamental Fish Consultant and or Research Officer evaluation will include:
    • Species type
    • Country of origin
    • Disease status of country in question
    • Note: The Branch reserves the right to prohibit importation of specific species.
  4. Submit the complete written application to the fisheries division office, aquaculture branch for verification by the branch official.
  5. The official will confirm that your application meet the required standards and forward it to the relevant department for approval.
  6. Once approved, the complete application will sent to the director of the branch who will receive and sign it
  7. Then the director will assign an officer to clear the fish consignment.
  8. And then the permit is processed and issued to you.
  9. On arrival of the fish consignment, the assigned inspector by the branch director will inspect and clear the consignment, but first you must provide the following documents to the inspector to complete the process:
    • Airway bill showing scientific and local names and quantities
    • Invoice showing scientific and local names and quantities
    • Import permit
    • Health Certificate from a competent authority from the country of origin. The certificate MUST be written in English and no more than fifteen (15) days old
    • Documents reviewed by the Branch
