Jamaica - How to Register Pesticides from the Pesticides Control Authority

Apply In-Person

  1. To register a pesticide in Jamaica, you should go to the Pesticide Control Authority (PCA). Please view the PCA’s contact details via this link:Link
  2. Obtain the application form for registration of pesticide from the PCA office or download it from their website: Link (Form 1) you can also download the form directly via this link:Link (Word Doc)
  3. Contact the PCA to obtain the checklist for registering a pesticide, the checklist will be used to verify the application
  4. Complete the application form correctly and prepare all the required supporting documents referring to the PCA’s checklist. Note that Application dossiers should be bound in hardcover binders, and be submitted in triplicate. The Dossiers should be correctly indexed in the order for easy reference.
  5. Visit the PCA’s office and submit your complete application to the registrar’s office for processing
  6. The registrar will receive your application and assess if the application is complete. Note the incomplete applications will not be accepted
  7. If the application is accepted, you will be direct to pay the registration fee to the ministry of health cashier and obtain the payment receipt.
  8. Take the payment receipt to the PCA Registrar’s office for filling
  9. Then your application will be scrutinized by a resource person to determine if it meets the required standards and forwards their recommendation to the PCA
  10. Based on the recommendations, the PCA will decide to you the registration or approve the registration
  11. If approved the PCA will contact and inform you of the conditions of the registration and then you will be issued a registration certificate of the pesticide

  • Application form dully filled and Checklist to Verify Application Completeness (New Registration)
  • The package size(s) in which the product will be imported.
  • Detailed literature in respect of the chemistry and composition of the product (including percentages of all ingredients), its efficacy, toxicology, antidotes (together with any available references) and precautions to be observed before, during, and after use. N.B. If the active ingredient is registered, only information on the formulation and the composition of the product is required.
  • Six sample copies of the label proposed to be used in connection with the new pesticide, along with samples of the packaging materials and inserts to be used for trade packages. Labels should be in English and should conform to the labeling standards of the PCA.
  • A certificate of analysis which contains: a) An assay on a recent batch of the product analyzed b) The method of analysis used (This is only required if the active ingredient is unregistered).
  • A duly authenticated and legalized certificate of registration (free sale) from the competent authority with whom the product is registered in the country of origin, and the conditions under which it may be sold in that country, also a copy of the label stamped as being approved by that Authority.
  • A statement showing: a) The countries in which the product is registered for Free Sale other than the country of origin. b) Any country in which the product has been refused registration for Free Sale and the reasons for refusal.
  • A certificate in the English language from the manufacturer, respecting the safety of the new pesticide, recommended conditions for use, and the conditions under which it is recommended for sale
  • A copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) or Product Data Sheet.
  • A statement specifying the crops/pests to be covered. State scientific names where possible, application rate (dosage), and re-entry and pre-harvest periods where applicable.
  • An analytical standard is required (on request) for all products with a new active ingredient
