ProcedureEdit

  1. Complete and submit The Special Licence Application For Production form, link provided under 'Documents to Use' section.
  2. Submit the completed form along with all other required documents, a list is provided below.
  3. Submit a list of the equipment you will be taking in. This list should include: Description, Quantity, Serial #s and Values. The Film Commission will, on your behalf, apply for a Waiver of Bond for equipment leaving the country after production is complete. Any item that will remain in the country will attract duty unless special provisions are made to get a Waiver of Duty from the ministry of Finance. This process can take up to four (4) weeks to be completed.
  4. Pay the permit fee of US$300.


Notes:

  • All production MUST employ the services of a Customs Broker, who will assist with clearing equipment using the Waiver of Bond provided by the Commission. FAILURE TO RETAIN THE SERVICES OF A CUSTOMS BROKER WILL RESULT IN YOUR EQUIPMENT BEING DETAINED.
  • All production MUST employ the services of a local Production Manager or Coordinator.
  • All foreign nationals entering Jamaica to conduct short term business will be admitted as "Business Visitors" in accordance with the entry requirements applicable to the visitors from their respective countries, i.e. if a Visitors' Visa is a requirement from your country for entry into Jamaica, then a Business Visa will be applicable. When a Business Visa is required, this can be purchased at any Jamaican embassy or consulate in your country prior to arrival.
  • Person(s) traveling to work for less than 30 days (1 month) will NOT require a Work Permit Exemption and instead will be admitted as a Business Visitor. If the project is beyond 30 days, each member of the production team will require a Work Permit Exemption.

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Completed application form
  • A one-page description of the company and project
  • The itinerary of lead production personnel
  • A list of personnel with information such as name position, nationality, date of birth and passport number. It should be noted that a condition of the licence is that Jamaican personnel such as production managers, technicians, actors, etc. must be used.
  • Person(s) traveling to Jamaica to work for less than 30 days will be admitted as a Business Visitor. If the project lasts beyond 30 days, each member of the production team will require a Work Permit Exemption. Applications for the Work Permit Exemption can be facilitated through the Film Commission.
  • A complete list of equipment to be imported including description, quantity, serial numbers and dollar value. The production company should ensure that the equipment needed is not available in Jamaica, as one of the conditions of the Film Licence is that whenever feasible, equipment available in Jamaica should be used. The services of a Customs Broker must be employed to assist with the clearing of equipment, failure to do so will result in the equipment being detained.   • A non-refundable permit fee of US$300.00
