Apply In-Person

  1. To have your imports inspect by the Plant Quarantine Division (QPD), you should submit your inspection request to the Plant Quarantine Produce Inspection (PQPI) unit office. Please view the PQD contact details in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section below
  2. Once the goods have arrived in Jamaica, prepare import declaration and the supporting documents of the imported goods in a single file. The import declaration form can be obtained from the Jamaica Customs Authority office or their website: (Find “C 86A - Goods Declaration Form”)Link
  3. Then obtain the application form for import inspection from the PQD office or download it from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MOA) website: Link (Please search for “Application for Import Inspection” to locate the form). You can also download the form via this link:Link
  4. Complete the application form correctly and attach all the required supporting documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” to the application form
  5. Visit the QPD office and submit your application to the QPD official at the service section
  6. The official will receive and verify your application and log the request for inspection in a register
  7. Then an inspector/s will be allocated to inspect your consignment at either the port, cold storage, or your premises. In case the goods are to inspected on your premises, the QPD will arrange a site appointment with you and you are required to give the address of the premise.
  8. The inspector/s will check your documents and physically inspect the goods and if testing of the goods is required, then samples of the goods will be taken and you will be issued an import sample form and the sample will be tested to determine the compliance of the good
  9. If the goods are deemed compliant after inspection and/or testing, the QPD will stamp your import declaration as approved for release and return the documents to you
  10. If the goods are deemed not to comply, the QPD will make a recommendation on what to with the goods, the recommendation can be; Treatment, Re-export, or Confiscation and Destruction
  11. If the goods are recommended for treatment, you will be notified of the treatment required and the necessary fees for the treatment. Then proceed with the treatment of the goods under the inspection of the QPD and present the goods for re-inspection and if the goods are found to be compliant after treatment, your import declaration will be signed as approved for release and issued to you, however, if the goods are still not compliance after treatment, the goods will be confiscated and destroyed
  12. If the goods are recommended for Re-export, the QPD will inform both you and the JCA by issuing a re-export notice and arrangement will be made to return the goods to the exporting country
  13. If the goods are recommended for Confiscation and Destruction, the QPD will inform you and the goods will be destroyed as recommended, and the QPD will issue a notice of the destruction of the goods to both you and the JCA

  • 1-10,000 kg : $ 1,500 (Permit cost) & $5,000 (per container)
  • 10,001kg- 25,000kg i.e (22, 002.lbs-55,000 lbs) : $3,000 (Permit cost) & $8,000 (per container)
  • Over 25000 kg i.e (55,000 lbs) : $ 4,500 (Permit cost) & $15,000 (Inspection Fee)
