Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To apply for the Exclusive Prospecting License (EPL), you should visit the Mines and Geology Division under the ministry of Transport and Mining. You can contact the Mines and Geology Division (MGD) via this link: Link
2. Obtain the application form at the registry of the Mines and Geology Division in person or download if from the MGD website via this link:Link you can also download the form directly through this link: Link
3. Complete the application form correctly and attach all the required documents to it as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section below.
4. Visit the MGD office and submit the application for verification by the MGD registry service section.
5. The official will check the application for accuracy and to ascertain if the area being applied for is available and not already covered by an existing EPL
6. Once verified, take the application with the prescribed fee to the Accounting Clerk, who issues a receipt and advises you to lodge application with the Registrar.
7. Submit the complete application to the registrar who will enter the application in the Prospecting License Register, and will assign a number to the application, and then the registrar will create a file for you regarding the application.
8. The file is then sent to the Commissioner of Mines for his recommendation.
9. On the Commissioner’s instruction, Notices outlining particulars of the application, are prepared for publication in the daily newspaper and the Gazette at your cost.
10. After a period of three weeks from the date of the publication of the Notice in the Gazette, three copies of the license are sent by the Commissioner to the Permanent Secretary, for his perusal and submission to the Minister for approval and then license will be granted to you
11. Within one week of the grant of the license you must submit to the Commissioner a Letter of Guarantee or a sum of twenty thousand dollars using the prescribed form provided by the GMD. The Guarantee is to offset the cost of damage to property or the removal of dangerous conditions occasioned by prospecting.

• Location map- 4 copies of topographic map on scale 1:50,000 showing approximate area in square kilometric. Note that the the area should not be more than 18 metric squares and should be rectangular in shape.

• Individual who hold a valid Prospecting Rights.

• Application fee for EPL: $ 10,000.00

Validity

• The license is valid for one year and subjected to renewals at the end of its period

Instructions

• A sum of twenty thousand dollars or such other sum as determined by the Commissioner must be deposited as a guarantee that the holder of the Exclusive Prospecting Licence will remedy any damage done to the property. This sum is refundable upon the satisfactory completion of the term of the Exclusive Prospecting Licence, if there are no unsettled claim(s).
