Apply In Person

  1. To apply for your Motor Vehicle Fitness Certificate, you should visit the Inland Traffic Authority (ITA) Depot and complete the fitness test on your vehicle. Please view the Inland Traffic Authority contact details through this link:Link
  2. First, pay the Certificate of Fitness fees for your vehicle in person at the Tax Administration Jamaica office (Tax office) or online through the TAJ e-services portal. You can refer to wikiprocedure: “Jamaica-How to Pay for The Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Online” to view the complete procedure for the payment of the certificate online
  3. Upon payment, Go to the Inland Traffic Authority with your vehicle along with all the required documents
  4. Present your documents to the officer at the service window including the payment receipt
  5. The officer will verify your documents and direct you to the vehicle examination section
  6. Then your vehicle will be subjected to a series of tests which it must pass for it to be considered fit
  7. If your vehicle passes all the fitness tests and the examination officer is satisfied that your vehicle is indeed fit, he/she will complete the fitness report and recommend the certificate to be issued to you
  8. Then the Inland Traffic Authority will process and issue the certificate of fitness for your motor vehicle

  • All vehicles in Jamaica must be examined if they are fit to be used on Jamaican roads

  • The fitness certificate fee depends on the type of your vehicle and it will be provided when you are paying for the fees

  • The certificate is valid for six months for public service vehicles and 12 months for private vehicles
