Procedure

If you are an Italy resident, are possible to appear at the counter of your municipality or not, you can apply for an Electronic Identity Card by following:

1. Apply in-person at the counter of your municipality
   
   1. Prepare the required documents:
      1. Your photo ID in paper or electronic format on a USB support, the photo must be of the same type as those used for the passport Photo ID
         
      2. Your tax code or health card
         
      3. In the case that the CIE applicant is a parent of minors, he/she must also present a declaration of consent to the expatriation signed by the other parent or parental responsibility and the authorization of the tutelary judge.
         
      4. Your valid identity documents (if have)
         
         
   2. Visit your municipality with two witnesses if you don’t have the valid identity documents
      
      • Present the required documents, perform the applicable payment and follow all of municipal operator’s guiding to:
        
      1. Confirm your personal data collected from the municipal registry office
         
      2. Provide your contact addresses to be notified about the shipment of your document and indicate how to collect the desired document
         
      3. Provide the photograph
      4. Proceed with the municipal operator to acquire the fingerprints Fingerprints
         
      5. Provide that you want a delegated person to withdraw your CIE or not
         
      6. Provide your consent or denial of organ donation
         
      7. Sign the summary form and proceeding with the final verification of the data.
         
      • You will receive the CIE at the address indicated within 6 working days from the request or follow your plan set from the time of your request.
        
        
2. In case of impossibility of the card holder to appear at the counter of municipality
   
   • Due to serious illness or other reasons as imprisonment, membership of seclusion orders, etc. you cannot appear at the counter of municipality. You can apply for electronic identity card through your delegate by following:
     
   1. Prepare the required documents:
      
      1. Your documentation certifying the impossibility
         
      2. Your identity card or other identification document
         
      3. Your photo ID in paper or electronic format on a USB support, the photo must be of the same type as those used for the passport Photo ID
   2. The delegate visits the municipality
      
      • He/she must present the required documents, follow all of municipal operator’s guiding to provide the place where to send the CIE and perform the payment. Once the payment has been made, an appointment will be arranged with the municipal operator at the card holder’s home for the completion of the procedure.
