Processing TimeEdit
Standard service
It takes about 5 working days to process a passport application using the standard service. The amount of time to process an application may increase further during busy periods, particularly around school holidays.
The demand for the express passport services of 1 and 5 working days take priority, and consequently the service delivery time for standard applications increases making it difficult to give an exact delivery time on the standard service. Therefore applicants are advised to check the progress of their application with the Passport Office at least 5 working days before travel. This provides the opportunity to opt for the 5 day express service if necessary, rather than having to use the more expensive 1 day service.
Express Service
Applications submitted under the express service will be given priority.
Two express services are available:
- Same day service: Applications received before 12:00 pm will be available for collection after 3:30 pm on the same day. Any applications received after 12:00 pm will not be available for collection until after 3:30 pm on the following day.
- Five working days service: Applications will be available for collection after 3:30 pm on the fifth working day, example: if the application is submitted on a Monday it will be ready for collection from our office on the following Monday after 3:30 pm.
You cannot avail of the express service if:
- You are an adult applying for a first time passport
- You are applying to replace a lost or stolen passport
- There is a mistake or missing information on your form
- The Isle of Man passport office needs more time to consider a complex application
- Circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the Isle of Man passport office

Need for the DocumentEdit
A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued.
Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
Parents can no longer register their minor children under their name. Children must have their own passport.
