Applying for the Government's Student Loan Scheme

From 2012-2013 on, Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI), which has been nominated as the new single grant-awarding authority, is handling all new applications for student grants. All new grant applications will be made online. You do not need to know the exact course you will be attending in order to apply online.

You can apply online for a student grant. You will need your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) and an email address and phone number to apply online.

  • Make your application as early as possible after the opening date.
  • Make sure the information you supply in relation to dates of birth, PPS numbers, etc. is correct, to avoid delays in the processing of your application.
  • Supply the documentation requested of you, correctly first time and on time.
  • Use the application tracker in your online account to check the progress of your submitted application at any stage.

Applying for a Student Loan Banks

  • Determine how much loan you would need
  • Look for various loan options
  • Figure out the best one by comparing the different options
  • Apply for the loan after clarifying all your doubts

It is often necessary to have a co-signer when applying for a student loan if you are studying abroad. This is because you probably wont be in a financial position to guarantee the loan yourself. The co-signer needs to be somebody who trusts you because they will be responsible for the debt if you fail to pay. In order to obtain a student loan in Italy, you are usually going to need a co-signer who is at least a resident in the country.

Information which might helpEdit

A loan offered to students which is used to pay off education-related expenses, such as college tuition, room and board at the university, or textbooks. Many of these loans are offered to students at a lower interest rate. In general, students are not required to pay back these loans until the end of a grace period, which usually begins after they have completed their education.

Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

A student loan is designed to help students pay for university tuition, books, and living expenses. It may differ from other types of loans in that the interest rate may be substantially lower and the repayment schedule may be deferred while the student is still in school. It also differs in many countries in the strict laws regulating renegotiating and bankruptcy.
