Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Applicant shall apply in person to the Indian Mission/Post/Office in whose jurisdiction the applicant is residing.

3. Go to the respective office. Obtain the required application form. Submit your completed application along with required documents to the authority and follow their guidelines to initiate the process.
4. This application will be processed further to cancel or renounce OCI.

Required Documents

• OCI details
• Proof of present citizenship
• Copy of present valid passport (applicable in all cases), with validity of minimum 6 months at the time of submission of application.
• Expired passport.
• Date of birth.
• Evidence of address of the place of application (Electricity bill / Telephone bill)
• Aadhaar card (as per requirement)
• For minors
  • Passport of Parent or guardian
  • Affidavit as per requirement

Eligibility

• OCI cardholders under the age of 20 are required to renew their OCI card each time they receive a new passport.
• Once you reach the age of 50, you must apply for OCI card renewal.

Fees

• US $ 25 or equivalent in local currency

Note:

• In case of applications filed in India, get demand draft for the said amount drawn in favour of “Pay and Accounts officer (Secretariat), Ministry of Home Affairs” payable at New Delhi.

Validity

• Valid lifelong.
• But..
  • For anyone under 21 years of age and over 50 years of age, they have to apply for new OCI all over again every time they get a new passport.

Need for the Document

• Please renew OCI as soon as you get new passport when you fall the valid age group.
• The Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) is an immigration status permitting a foreign citizen of Indian origin to live and work in India indefinitely.
• The OCI was introduced in response to demands for dual citizenship by the Indian origin.
